À visiter : La Roche, beau village typique.
It was pure luck that I found La Copette; I needed a reasonably priced hotel or B&B for a 4-day stay for the Belgian F1 GP. For the price of 50 Euros (£38 per night approx.) I was not expecting much. On arrival Barbara and her husband David were most welcoming; we were immediately offered a drink (you must try Duval Belgian beer) and then shown to our rooms with our extensive F1 GP luggage carried by David and son, Tom.. My room was very spacious with tea and coffee making and a fresh bottle of water every day. My shower was quite the best I have experienced; there were 3 main shower types; full body horizontal jets, a rainforest overhead and a standard hair washing showerhead. It was a double size and had disco style lighting if required plus you could have the radio on and the time displayed. The shower in bedroom 2 is not quite the same but still far superior to most 4 or even 5-star hotels. Both rooms have large baths with ample hot water. Towels are changed daily. Breakfast was a delight. A boiled egg, a large basket of fresh breads and croissants and sometimes pan au chocolat. We had a large decanter of fresh orange juice, a fine selection of homemade jams and a large platter of cheese and meats plus yoghurts. Coffee was wonderful too. Barbara, our host loves cooking and will cook dinner if given a day's notice. We had a delicious slow-cooked meat dish with masses of chips. You eat and socialise in the large modern kitchen which is equipped with a very large cooler cabinet for wines, beer and soft drinks sold on an honesty basis. Nuts and crisps are provided as soon as you get your drink. The village of Wibrin has a couple of bars/taverns and the nearby ancient towns of Houffalize and La Roche are 10-15 mins drive away. La Copette's rear gardens are extensive with ample seating and loungers.. The family consists of two lovely daughters (8 and 10) and 14 yr old Tom who looks older and is a willing hand with your bags "Just ask if you need any help". During the winter months (Dec-Feb and sometimes later), there is family friendly skiing just 10 mins drive away . In the summer, the nearby towns and lakes offer a wide variety of pastimes. Spa Francochamps Grand Prix track is about 45 mins drive, even on the Sunday race day except the police have a desire to divert you on your way back as far away from your destination as possible. With their help it took just over the hour following Lewis Hamilton's win, but the journey is through spectacular scenery and so was not a problem. Diesel is under 80p a litre at present! So what are the downsides? Firstly, access is up some stone steps (about 8) when entering through the garden. The two guest rooms are on the next floor up (2nd floor if entering through the front door). My travel companion was disabled and uses crutches and a wheelchair but managed. David is continuing to renovate and probably by this time next year 2016, there will be 4 guest rooms. Barbara asks for payment in cash; there is no card machine; this was no real problem as we knew in advance and there are also 3 ATMs in Houffalize. La Copette is not easy to find. The house sign is up high on the right of the building and we missed it. But as a rough guide it is about the third house on the left as you enter the village (large brown garage door to the left of the house) from Nadrin or La Roche. My Tom Tom Satnav thought Wibrin was in the neighbouring village of Nadrin but as you drive through Nadrin, at the crossroads there is a sign showing 3 kms to Wibrin to the left. Parking is on their parking recess to the front of the house - we felt it was perfectly safe and left the Satnav and other belongings in the car overnight. I can highly recommend La Copette. David and Barbara have only been open a year and so there are very few reviews on here. They both speak very good English, Dutch and French. They are so willing to please and to ensure you have everything you need. English breakfast tea was not available to start with but I provided a very large box from the local supermarket which should last a year! They supply a full range of herbal and fruit teas plus Earl Grey. My colleague only drinks English Breakfast and perhaps should have brought his own!!!!!! If you want to be pampered, have a very comfortable and relaxing time, you should look no further. The local scenery is stunning and the towns have many restaurants and bars providing a range of food styles at very reasonable cost. I will be going back as soon as possible.…
