Expensive at 125NZD/night for what you get, compared to rest of NZ, but Te Anau in summer is. Very basic old rooms, but clean. Good bed, warm bed linens, but too thick / lumpy pillows. Ensuite very tired but nice to have, and shower warm. Very convenient for drive to Milford Sound. Nice lake views. Restaurant decently priced and quite nice, but book for dinner as only one chef (otherwise you might have to wait - nothing else nearby). Good option for getting to early cruises on the Sound if you don't mind basic accoms. Book direct on their website to save.
Vi ankom omkring kl 20 efter et besøg i Milford Sound. Vi indtog straks restauranten og blev meget overrasket. Vores tur på NZ havde på dette tidspunkt varet 2 uger og spist ude hver dag. Maden her slog alt.. selv restauranter i de stører byer. Udsigten var fabelagtig. Vi boede i Backpacker delen som var ganske fornuftig til den billige pris. Der er mulighed for at bo mere luksuriøst på stedet, hvis man er til det.
Booked two nights in the backpackers of the lodge and was not disappointed. Front desk staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. He kindly upgraded us to lakefront rooms and I was able to be placed with my friend who came along last-minute. We were given extensive information about the surrounding area and day hikes as well as the amenities of the lodge. The views from our double room were gorgeous, we had comfortable beds, stayed warm all night, and were pleased to have our own bathroom (though it does not come stocked with any hand soap or towels, so be prepared to bring your own.) The kitchen was clean and had new appliances and pots/pans. The fireplace in the backpackers was also a much-appreciated addition. Enjoyed wine and coffee from the lodge cafe; both were tasty and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend to travelling friends. We really enjoyed ourselves here.…
