Nice place to spend an hour.
The viewing only currently runs from Thursday - Saturday currently. The team were very helpful, the location is quite rural (as you would expect) and you view the birds from c200metres stood outside (so one to bear in mind if its raining).
The RSPB team leave meat on a table and fingers crossed the birds come to feed - they were a little reluctant to start with on our visit but we preserved and stayed for about 90mins and did end up seeing a number of kites and a few hawks.
They ask for a donation of £5 / adult - there is a free car park and a toilet but thats it in terms of amenities.

We drove all the way there to see the Red Kites today.
When we got there we were informed that they had forgotten to get the meat to feed the Red Kites out of the freezer, they had no microwave, so no feeding today.
One of the men just said ‘ well you haven’t had to come far’ , I thought that’s not really the point. We have taken time out of our precious week holiday to come here when we could have been doing something else.
I was surprised the third chap when he turned up hadn’t managed to pop to the co -op, if they had asked, we would have happily done so, just so we could have a little experience.
There were only 2 kites overhead, and I assume as the feeding is not regular ( only Thur to Sun) that not many turn up anyway.
The lady had already told us they had 2 white tailed eagles last week, so the whole thing was very disappointing.
Years ago I went to Grigin Farm in Wales to see the same, and that was fantastic.
Just a warning, the track to the farm is very rough and needs to be driven slowly because of pot holes.

Being bird lovers we were a little disappointed, we had more gulls than kites. Toilets available and free onsite parking. RSPB ask for a small donation to help fund this project approx £5 an adult (I think). Do not expect the kites to be like the TV documentaries.

I'm sure that usually this place would be well looked after and worth a visit. With lockdown having been lifted we decided to pop along here for some views of the red kite.
Sadly the place was still closed and although we had been told the farmer was feeding the kite still this clearly wasn't the case. The place appears to be completely abandoned and we know enough to know that kite start gathering in surrounding trees before feed time but here there were none, All of the Nut and seed feeders were also empty and the grass very over grown. I hope this place can survive but I,m not so sure.
Shame on the RSPB for allowing this to happen when so many other reserves have continued to look after the birds and wildlife.

We went at feeding time(1 30) and saw plenty of red kites. the hide was excellent, with activities for youngsters if you wanted to take the family. Shame about the seagulls getting in the way, but that's nature!!

We were on a mini Highland holiday and have passed by Tollie many times and always thought we should go, so having some spare time, we did! While driving to and from Inverness I regularly see the kites flying around, so was excited to see more of them and was not disappointed. We turned up early for the winter feeding (at 13:30) so had time to wander round the hut with lots of interesting information. It turned out to just be the two of us, And the volunteer turned up and chatted with us for a wee while before ‘getting on with the show’ as she said. She was so good and tried to coax the kites in by putting out a small amount of food a few times. By the end there were 8 or 9 kites flying around and swooping down for a tasty morsel. There were also loads of gulls, but it is nature, nothing is guaranteed; but we had a lovely sunny day in January and loved seeing the kites, the gulls gave a good size comparison and the kites are bigger than I expected. Really enjoyed our visit. Only thing I will say, give yourself plenty of time to drive the mile or so from the main road, as it is quite a rough and bumpy track - totally worth it though!

It's a bit hard to rate the place! We were on a short trip to the Highlands, and turned up early to check things out. Many of the potholes in the access track had recently been filled, and at the end there was a lovely building, and conveniently placed viewing screens. About a dozen people and half-a-dozen red kites gathered as the advertised feeding time approached; we all (humans and kites) waited around 30-40 minutes before drifting off again. It would have been appreciated if someone had put a notice on the door, although I do understand that it's staffed by volunteers.
On the other hand, for birdwatchers/photographers, there was a lot of small-bird activity on the feeders, which helped us while away the time.

This nature reserve is well sign posted and easy to find. There’s plenty of parking. The visitor centre is small but well stocked with info on local bird life. There was a board to write up birds you’ve spotted locally so you could see what birds to look out for. We walked a few miles along tracks from the centre. The landscape is beautiful but in October it was very muddy and water logged and eventually we had to turn back. Fair enough for Scotland in October. We didn’t come at the feeding time but we were lucky enough to spot a red kite circling the centre just before we left. What a beautiful bird.

We were so excited about the possibility to see a flock of red kites coming in to feed as advertised on their website. We got there about 15 minutes early and stood around waiting for the "volunteer" to show up to put food out for the birds. We waited another 15 minutes and no one ever showed up. Someone (not with us) went into the information center and saw a log that showed it had been four days since a volunteer had logged in to indicate that the birds had been fed. We'd already put some money into the cairn designated for donations. What a big disappoint and a waste of time and money.

Only reason for an average rating is because it was closed when we got there, though it was after the opening time. However full credit goes to the volunteers who look after this place and probably give heaps of their time to allow visitors the chance to watch these birds. We hung around for a little while hoping to see the red kites nearby but weren't lucky. The drive in was through a narrow and winding track.

I'm hoping to visit Tollie Red Kites soon but noticed you have to drive half a mile down a farm track. What is the farm track like? Very bumpy? I haven't got a 4 x 4 so not keen to damage my car!

When we were there this past September, the farm track was narrow and we dodged a few pot holes but it seemed navigable by any type vehicle. We saw a variety of cars in the parking lot. However, we did not see any volunteers or kites. Good luck!
