The Chocolate Pots little geyser is colourful and pretty nice, but is really nothing to be compared with the others throughout the park.

This is one of the hidden treasures of Yellowstone! If you want concentrated colors in bacteria and alagal mats, Chololate Pots is the feature to see! As others have mentioned, keep an eye out on the road through Gibbon Basin, and use the unmarked pullout. We read about this colorful spring in "Geysers of Yellowstone" (available in bookstores in the Park). It's not dramatic, but it's quite colorful and scenic!

We never stopped to see the Chocolate Pots on our previous trips. I have to say that we may not have found them without the Yellowstone Treasures book. There is an unmarked pullout on the west side of the Grand Loop Road between Norris and Madison. Park there and walk along the parking area following the Gibbon River. You will spot the Chocolate Pots through the trees on the opposite side of the River. Unique color!

Just north of the Gibbon picnic area, an unmarked turnout on the left side of the road (when you are northbound) serves these unheralded attractions!
Several three to four foot high cones of sinter are stained green, yellow, brown and orange in streaks by heat-loving Cyanobacteria overlaying oxides of manganese, iron, aluminum and nickel!
This is an excellent example of lesser-known Yellowstone wonders and there are many more to discover just around the bend or over the horizon, away from the road as well!
May you find them.
