I recently attended the Irish Classical Theatre's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Kleinhans Music Hall with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra playing Mendelssohn's accompanying music. I've seen the play several times before and feel this was the best performance of all. The cast captured the magic of Shakespeare's words and the orchestra lifted the performance into a night that was unforgettable. The play-within-the-play was hilarious - one doesn't expect to find oneself helpless with laughter with Shakespeare - and I therefore commend the ICT on another triumph.

I know Shea's the famous theater in Buffalo, but The Irish Classical is by far my favorite. It's basically in the shadow of Shea's, but has such a loyal fan base that it's highly successful. The theater itself only has 3 rows, with the stage being a large square, and the audience seating around the square on all sides. For this theater, it's all about the acting. You won't be "wowed" by the props, music or special effects. You will, however, be blown away with the talent of the actors and the creativity needed to make minimal props feel like a sea of objects. We've been to approx. 20 shows over the course of the years, and it's reliably fantastic!

We have been to Irish Classical Theatre several times. This time it was see an adaption of Jane Austen's novel Sense and Sensibility. It is a small venue with seating in the round, such that the audience could literally reach out and touch the actors as the enter and leave the stage. The play was very good, with enough levity so the mood was light-hearted.

Thirteen of us got together and drove from Lockport to Buffalo to see the play SENSE AND SENSIBILITY at the Irish Classical Theatre. The theatre is round and kind of small. It appeared to me that every seat is a good one. Acoustics were fine. The price for our tickets was very reasonable.

Venue Type:
Small Performing Arts Theatre
Season:
2017-2018
Price:
$20 - $45 per person. (See website for more details.)
The Irish Classical Theatre Company is a unique venue that features in-the-round seating and a slate of plays that are both intellectually stimulating and amusing. While the company understands its niche appeal, it goes to great lengths to target an inclusive audience. Situated in the heart of the theatre district and within walking distance of the Expo Market and other trendy restaurants, the theatre is a great backdrop for a welcome evening with friends and family.

My husband and I have been to the ICTC many times over the years and every performance is simply divine! The theater is in downtown Buffalo on Main St near Chippewa. We always park in the M&T Bank parking lot at Washington & Chippewa for $3.00 and it's a quick walk to the theater. The theater is small with a nice lobby bar and will call. Inside the theater where the plays are performed is small and intimate and every seat is an excellent one. The stage floor is in the center and seating is around the center floor, made up of three rows all the way around. When set changes happen, the house lights go dark and stage hands move around by using glow in the dark tape places strategically in the floor. Very clever. Prices are appropriate for an excellent play and we appreciate every performance here. Regarding dress, we like to dress up for our play dates but I have seen people arrive in jeans and sometimes shorts but I don't think it's respectful to wear shorts. I hope you give this intimate theater a try! Enjoy.

I have attended a number of shows there. The bar is nice to catch a drink before after the show. The plays are well done and all of the seats are great for viewing.

After dining at Fridays Restaurant just down the street, we went to The Irish Classical Theatre Company, Buffalo to see Bryan Delaney's Western New York premiere, The Seedbed. The play was well acted and we enjoyed our evening.
The Seedbed, suggests imagery that reflects growth ‒ whether it's fragrant flowers cultivated by Mick, a florist from Amsterdam, or ‒ malignant familial thoughts and desires amidst a troubled triangle ‒ father, mother and daughter in "a house in Ireland," actually any home in any land.
This compelling drama might equally be called The Elephant in the Room, which seems appropriate now that U.S. politics appears illogical to the rest of the world. The elephant might be Thomas, the steadfast father, portrayed powerfully by Chris Kelly, who cultivates a slow burn with volcanic explosions throughout the play. Or it might be his wife, Hannah, played stoically and convincingly by Kristen Trip Kelley, her red hair burning as brightly as her mounting fear and anxiety, which sparks trouble for all. Or it might be the 18-year-old daughter Maggie, her raw sexual allure and angry acting out captured wonderfully by Arianne Davidow. Finally, it might be young Maggie's bizarre choice for a mate, middle-aged Mick, the florist, handled adeptly by Eric Rawski whose penchant for honesty causes the family irreparable damage. That's four elephants if you are counting, in fact a veritable herd.
Buffalo's Irish Classical Theatre Company is a Western New York gem whose Artistic Director, Vincent O'Neil and Producing Director, Fortunato Pezzimenti regularly stage potent, relevant and well-acted plays in their Andrews Theatre, located directly across Main Street from Shea's Performing Arts Center in the heart of Buffalo's Theatre District.

First time attending this theater using a buy one get one free voucher. What a pleasant experience! Theater is small however every seat is well positioned therefore, no issue seeing the stage or performers. Attended the one man show, Fully Committed, at a Sunday 2:00 pm performance. Great performance. There was no intermission for this 90 minute show, refreshments were offered before the show began, pleasant staff. The ladies showing you to your seats seemed confused as to the seating outlay (maybe they were new?). Other than this confusion, this theater was a nice experience and will most likely return.

this seems the sort of theater that would jam up during st. Patrick's season, but it's a tad more eclectic than that and the current show, about a frustrated restaurant waiter, is one of the most hysterical ever written, won't miss a line anywhere with the cozy seating, none further than three rows back...
