As a float tuber who visits Mammoth Lakes regularly, I always rely upon Rick’s for gear and to use their air compressor. I was stunned when i first stopped and asked if I could purchase a fill up of my tube. When told there was no charge I was stunned. I have never used any other fishing store since. Always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, Rick’s is a diamond.

I stopped at Rick’s today looking for Coleman propane canisters for my camping grill. The boy behind the counter at 4:30 PM today had about as much customer service as a full thimble. In fact he was rude, not forth coming on answering questions and portrayed an overall arrogant attitude. Desperate I bought the last two canisters in the store, paid with my credit card and had to ask for my receipt. No thank you, hope to see you again, nothing; just a blank stare. Luckily I noticed another Sporting Goods store across the street, Kitttredge I believe. I found the hospitality and customer service I have come to expect in my 59 years. I was greeted with a smile, given personal attention and received a “thank you for stopping by, hope to see you again.”

If you just need basic gear to snowboarding or ski especially you are beginner and don't want to spend a fortune, this place is right for you. My kids were 1st time to learn snowboard and I didn't want to spend $200 per person to get lesson with gear for them, I don't know if they like it or not. Rick's store has the lowest price rental - less then $40/ day for full gear. That's the cheapest price I can find in town. The service was good, the staff gave us tips where to go for 1st timer and how to wear the gear. It was good deal we rent for a day, both kids had a taste of it and save a lot of money. next time I will go there again.

We went to Rick's Sport Center when in Mammoth Lakes. Its a very good sports center with store, rental area, and also sells licenses. Staff is nice

We used to live in Mammoth many years ago and came back for a fun ski week. Someone recommended Rick's for a good deal and we found it much more. Boots were pretty much new, prices so good we ended up getting high end skis and Rick knew all the old names in town so I could catch up on gossip. When we returned them we heard him advising potential renters to hold off as the weather forecast wasn't good. Honest guy, I'd recommend his place to everyone.

Owner and employees were rude and the prices a rip off. Go to the Troutfitter for best products, service, advice and guides if needed. We have lived in and visited Mammoth Lakes many times and have found Rick's Sport Center to be over priced and under served.

This is my go to shop when I'm fishing in Mammoth. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The first time I stepped in I had to fix my daughter's fishing reel. She made a royal mess of it. I figured they might gouge me being that I'm in a jam. They did the complete opposite. In fact they fixed it no charge. I felt compelled to buy something to show my gratitude. Their prices compare with Walmart or anywhere around my home. I like them so much I did a blog review that can be found at uscarlos.com

I cannot recommend this store. The prices are high and service terrible. There are better choices in Mammoth Lakes.

My initial contact with Rick's was over the phone as I was calling around to ask about renting fishing gear. The man who answered the phone was friendly, helpful, laid-back, and gave a much more positive impression than another shop I had called.
When I went in to rent gear, I got the same helpful and friendly service as over the phone. The staff gave great advice as to where the best fishing spots were, and as I was fishing with 7 year olds, they gave good age appropriate advice.
Pricing for poles is $10/day, plus tackle (hooks, spinners, etc) and license. I picked up at 2PM and they let us hold on to it until close the next day (the other store was $12/day, and poles had to be back w/in 24hrs). Equipment was well set-up, and they even let us use the tackle that past customers had left behind.
The limitation w/ Rick's is that they sell only fishing gear, maybe a limit amount of apparel. Also, other shops have more detailed maps available, but Rick's maps include tackle instructions.
As a bonus, Rick's is also next door to a great beer store.
