I walked into this museum with the intention of just killing some time while waiting for the shuttle to Mt. Hood. By far, this was the highlight of my day. I opened the door to huge smiles and friendly faces. They were the absolute nicest people I'd encountered so far in Oregon. I was given the star treatment. I learned so much interesting information about the area and the artifacts inside the museum. I purchased a couple beautiful pictures and won a book about the history of Mt. Hood area. The two fellas who run the museum were extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history and culture of the area. If you're going to Mt. Hood, make a point to stop here. You definitely won't regret it.

Loved this museum in downtown Sandy, great displays and local history of the area and PNW. The volunteers there are very helpful, and knowledgeable of not only the display pieces but of the area history as well. The displays change from time to time I hear, so will come back again later this year when we have nothing to do ... Enjoy!!

I have driven by this museum for decades as I traveled back and forth between Gresham and Zigzag, Oregon. Or trips to Government camp. I never had been inside the Museum until now. It was good to finally go inside and see what they had.
The building is on the small side. but does have some interesting displays and details about the past. The block that it sits on is right in the middle of the two main one way streets. One heading East. And one heading west. So there is no way that you are not going to miss driving my this place if you drive through Sandy, Oregon. Its location could be any better than this. And there are plenty of places nearby that you can go to eat or shop.
I liked the display of a shop they had. And the old style means of travel... wooden wheels and all. This was the big eye catching item they had. Other displays are laid out with details about them. Most of what they have here covers the old days of this area along the Barlow Trail.
The museum also has a library of historical data that is available for research.
The museum is FREE. They do take donations if you wish to contribute a little money. They have a small gift shop that has some nice books. As it happened they had a table of books for sale when I was there. One that I spotted on sale was titled "Columbia Great River Of The West." I just couldn't pass this book up.After their sale mark down this book only cost me $7. I've paid more for a micro-brew at some places than this. Might as well have something good to show for my money that will last a long time.
The Museum is open:
10 AM to 4 PM Monday through Saturday.
Noon to 4 PM on Sundays

Smallish building and didn't expect much, but what a wealth of interesting information. The lady working there at the time was pleasant and told us even more. No admission fee but we left a nice amount in their donation box on our way out.

I love the museum and Sandy because it's so perfectly set up. You got to see history of what the sandy area was in the Pacific Northwest through different chunks of time from the Oregon Trail on word. The staff is very friendly and able to answer all your questions and all the exhibits are unbelievably amazing.

The Sandy Historical Museum is staffed with volunteers who know the history and area of Sandy. The museum itself is very informative from the Oregon Trail days to the timber industry. The gift shop is stocked with items locally made and books with great reading on the history.
There are lots of fun shops and great restaurants in Sandy. Don't forget to stop at Joe's Donut Shop - the donuts are great and a local favorite.

It is so great to go into the museum and see history from our community. The different displays they put up and all the reference material you can go thru is awesome. I love the corner that has all the past yearbooks and local family history too.
