A 5th and 15th century church, all rolled into one! Also known as the "Cathedral on the Marsh"
A 5th century church, the original is still incorporated into the very fabric of the present church, the 15th century one.
It's bright and airy, the largest spire and longest church in Kent.
The graveyard has tombs dating from the 16th century, plus many graves of sailors from a bygone era.
A Grade 1 listed building,well worth a wander around.

As you approach Lydd, the 132 feet high 15th Century tower of All Saints' Mediaeval Church, known as the 'Cathedral of the Marsh', is visible from miles around. And the high tower isn’t the only impressive statistic because, at 199 ft long, All Saints is also the longest Parish Church in Kent.

Although the church dates from the Middle Ages, much of the interior design was a result of more modern military intervention, starting in 1887 when, in order to cater for large numbers of soldiers from the army camp, the Victorian box pews were removed and replaced by the ones in place now, and allowed up to 1200 people to attend service!

The second military intervention occurred in 1940 when the church was hit by a bomb and the chancel was destroyed, and further bombing attacks inflicted even more damage in 1944. Fortunately, repairs and rebuilding were undertaken using the original brick.

All Saints is certainly an impressive and very interesting church, and is worth a visit. Be aware however that the rest of the village has little to offer.

There isn't much else of note in Lydd but All Saints Church is worth a visit. It is known as the Cathedral on the Marsh and quite interesting and was open so we were able to go and view.

Over 1000 people were crammed into thus lovely ancient church in July to hear the Marsh Choir. Fantastic old church which hosts many events over the Marsh such as teddies parachuting from the tower! Only one problem, only one loo!

There isn't a lot of Lydd for the tourist but this is a large and beautiful church that is known as the Cathedral of the Marshes (or similar!) and is a must see if you enjoy looking around old English churches.

This large church in the small village of Lydd is amazing for its size and, indeed, is known as "The cathedral on the Marsh." There are 3 aisles and a number of temporary displays by some of the congregation including a garden, some choristers and Noah's ark which are interesting to see. It was very peaceful. We met one other person, a local who had popped in to pray, while we were there.

Standing proud in Lydd. Lydd itself hasn't got much but it has connections to kent towns such as New Romney, Folkestone, Dover, Canterbury etc it's endless, and the other way Hastings and Eastbourne etc.
