Our guide took us to the mountain one day for a tour. Was around a 2hr trip by tuk tuk but a very relaxing drive none the less.

Go to the toilet before you head up the temple. The history is amazing, the old capital !!! It is a fair was up but nothing more than a general fitness level requires.

You go up a number of stairs, then you go down a few then up up up !!!!! Wonder at the top, the views are amazing !!!!!

We were there in a very warm humid day and as you take your shoes off at the top, we were worried about feet burning !!!! But the marble is very cool indeed, surprisingly as it’s in full sun !!! The black bricks to the side of the marble were absolutely roasting !!!!

One you get to the bottom there is a variety of sellers and some local food to be had as well. I had the beehive and the BBQ chicken. The chicken and sauce I had were amazing would pass on the beehive but it was an experience none the less. (See pics attached)

We went back a different way, very much local roads and the like but again very good to experience.

Well worth the trip if you are looking for a good day tour. Best to get a driver and tuk tuk, we paid USD$35 and that was to the mountain and back, then after shower our guide took us out for dinner and back as well. 8/10

We enjoyed a peaceful visit to the mountain and its varied temples. Having read the previous reviews about this place, I was a little worried that we may be harassed by all and sundry. Nothing could be further from the truth. We came on a Wednesday, between festival days, and there were hardly any people around. We booked a car with driver from our hotel in Phnom Penh for $50. It took about an hour and 20 minutes. For this distance I think a tuk tuk is a poor choice: too smelly, smoky and slow. Our driver relaxed in the deserted tourist parking area at the bottom of the main stairs while we spent about an hour and a half exploring. There were a few pavilions and shady trees, and some stalls selling snacks along the access road. Absolutely no one harassed us, for money, for guides or for souvenirs as we got our bearings at the bottom. There were a few locals at the temples and they were friendly and helpful. Its hot climbing up and so the various drink seller stalls along the way are welcome. For the ascent we chose the 'old stairs' that you can see just to the left of the main staircase as you look up the mountain. It's a bit more gentle and takes you to just behind the main set of temple spires on the front peak. We decided to explore the trail to the smaller temples beyond, before returning to see the main attractions. These smaller shrines and temples are in varied states of repair, however the general area was relatively tidy and easy to visit, although the Big Buddha pavilion is currently off limits due to renovation work. The main cluster of temples is very picturesque. The obviously vary in age. The biggest and the best crowns the highest point. While it looks very new and lacks the charm of it's more ruined neighbors, it has stupendous views across the surrounding countryside. I think it's quite impressive and quite attractive: new does not mean it is not authentic, evidence by the attention from local worshippers.
After our visit, our driver took us to the massive Buddhist complex on the plain just beyond Mt Udong. It's very impressive and definitely worth a look. In summary, Mt Udong is a very easy half day trip from Phnom Penh. You may get lucky, like us and get to enjoy the place in peace.

Was a bit of a way outside Phnon Phen. Lots of steps up, part way up a man with a silver bowl held it out, we presumed it was entrance fee, at that point someone else walked up the stairs with us, after a few more stairs another man holding out a silver bowl! Meanwhile the man tagging along starts to tell us about the place, no mention of a tour guide etc, no badge. Lots of steps to climb to the marble part, he then tells us about the old buildings so we are committed. Along the way there are beggars and other people wanting money. At the end our “guide” tells us he needs money for schooling can we give him a months school fees $60! A reasonably interesting place if you are near by but beware of the touts.

It was so nice to be out and away from the crowds. The path to the top only had a handful of others on it. The views from the top are spectacular.
