A Fun Family Activity
aug. 2021
Happy Day Farms is a great family outing located near Highway 33 in Manalapan NJ. Mid -August, the farm offers sunflower, zinna and blueberry picking, and free tractor rides to and from the fields.
We visited the farm near the end of its sunflower, zinna and blueberry season and decided to collect just sunflowers and blueberries. (Sunflower picking ends on Aug 18th but moves to their sister farm Arrowhead Farmstead after Aug 19th to Aug 29th. In fall they offer fall festival and pumpkin picking starting in Sept.)

There were five in our party. After a short tractor ride we found ourselves surrounded by a field of sunflowers. I am not really a fan of sunflowers. They are not a very attractive flower to me. But seeing so many of them with their large yellow petaled flowers and dark yellow/brown centers all facing in the same direction was an impressive and very pretty sight. It offered many good opportunities for family photos. The Farm has props set up in the midst of the field - like colored doors and a giant high chair – for you to pose surrounded by the field of flowers. Walking through the fields I was surprised by how high and heavy sunflowers are when you bump into them. Beware when you approach one, there are bees in the field that do land on the sunflowers.

Our group cut three long sunflowers stems to take home. Sunflower stem are very thick and you will need cutting sheers. You can borrow sheers from the farm but you will have give them $10 in exchange for the sheers which they will return to you when you give the sheers back. It is best to plan ahead and bring your own sheers so you do not have to wait on a long line to borrow sheers from the farm as we did.

The blueberries are located in a field that is surrounded by mesh on each side and overhead. I assume to keep out the bugs. The blueberries are small but they are sweet. When you pay to pick blueberries the farm gives you a plastic container to place them in. You pay for the blueberries based upon the size of the container you select.

We really enjoyed our family farm visit. Unfortunately we stopped for dinner on our way home and left our sunflowers in a hot car. They started to wilt. We put them in water at home but we still lost one of the flowers. In hindsight we should have to brought a water container or cooler to keep them fresh for the trip home. But we still have two good sunflowers, over a pound of freshly picked blueberries and great family photos of our visit.

A visit to the Happy Day Farm is not cheap for what it offers. You pay a fee to enter the fields to pick your choice of flowers and/or fruit. You pay an additional fee for each flower stem you take and for the quantity of fruit you collect. The price for sunflower picking is $15 per person, zinnia picking is $10 per person and blueberries is $3 per person. They charge $23 to pick all three. In addition you pay $2.50 per sunflower stem and/or two for $1 for zinna stems. They also offer sell containers to carry your flower stems in for an additional fee. For the blueberries they give you a choice of 3 different sized plastic containers from $3 to $12 to fill up. We chose the ½ lb and 1 lb containers for $3 and $6. So the five of us paid over $100 to collect 3 sunflowers and 1.5 lbs of blueberries over a period of 2 hours.

Hours for the farm are from Wednesday to Sunday 8 am to 3pm. Last entry is 2:30pm. We arrived at 2:20pm on a Sunday and picked until about 4 pm. The farm is cash only. No outside food, pets or smoking is allowed. They do have concession stands serving food and drink on premise

Lovely Day Outing
jul. 2021
First time visit to Happy Day Farm and I loved it! Once you arrive you take a ride on the hay wagon to the Blueberry field and pick blueberries and let me tell you there are delicious!! Then you go back and take another hay wagon to the sunflower field. The sunflowers are huge and amazing. So beautiful. There is a very small store and a few animals for the kids.

One of our Favorite Farms
aug. 2021
We have been coming to this wonderful farm for several years now. We have come in different seasons, and have been amazed every time. They have cultivated Mother Nature in all her beauty – Lavender Patches in late- spring, Zinnias, Sunflowers, Blueberries and Raspberries in summer, and Pumpkins and Corn Mazes in fall. This year they outdid themselves with the very large zinnia and Sunflower fields with the props and photo-ops (with cute sayings on them) that serve as the main attraction for some amazing pictures. They seem to be getting better each year.

This year, we came on a weekday morning when there were very few people there, and so the props were ours for the picking. Without any long lines, we took full advantage of them to capture some stunning pictures of ourselves on the swings, in the bathtubs, in front of the little Volkswagen Bug, on the massive chair, and alongside the colorful doors that are scattered around.

At the entrance they have a Lemonade and Kettle Corn Stand, plus cute little animals to pet or look at if you come with little kids.

Everything is streamlined, super - organized, clean and pretty. The Customer Service deserves a shout-out also. Every single person there is extremely pleasant, helpful, professional and accommodating.

They have followed proper precautions during the pandemic – signs to mask-up or maintain social distance – even in the tractor, hand washing stations, separate baby changing or nursing room, etc.

Prices have gone up significantly this year. In spite of this, we thought it was worth it just to take some time off and immerse ourselves in those vast fields of beauty. -- $15 for Sunflowers, $10 for Lavender Patch or Zinnias, $3 for Blueberry picking, etc. There is a slight discount to do everything on one day.

We highly recommend a visit, and we cannot wait to return for the Pumpkin Festival next month

Sunflower Photo Op
aug. 2020
If you want several advantage points to take photos in a sunflower field, then this would be a great place for you to do it. Doorways, chairs, couches, swings to take different photos. I didn't think the entrance price of $8.00 per person was fair however. They charge for children over 1 year of age which I feel is not right, considering there was nothing else to do at the farm when we went to pick, unless you feel the $8.00 is worth the tractor ride over to the patch. They give you shears, which you leave a $10 deposit. When you return them, they deduct it from the price of the flowers you picked @ 2.50 a stem. You must wash your hands before entering, although no one is making sure you do so. People entering were wearing masks as well as the tractor ride. Most were NOT in the fields and no one was insisting that they do, which I found difficult pushing a stroller around to avoid non mask wearers. Today it didn't appear overly busy, so we managed, but I really would have been quite upset with the lack of mask wearing in the fields on a busy day. If you go, preferably wear sneakers, and you might want to bring a small container with water to the field, as it was so hot, several of the sunflowers wilted by the time we got back to our car.

Fantastic Farm!
okt. 2019 • Gezinnen
What a great place to be! This was our first time visiting Happy Day Farm. What an amazing place. We arrived when it opened and left right before it closed and we didn’t get to experience everything. This farm is on a large piece of land. This place has a corn maize, hay ride, petting zoo, pony/horse rides, pig race, pull a tractor, corn (instead of sand) box, swings and a fun slide, shoot corn at pumpkins, a jumbo pillow, sunflowers and pumpkins and much more. They have different kinds of foods which was a plus and of course apple cider donuts and some other delicious treats. Parking is free and the establishment only accepts cash. By the end of the day, the adults were so exhausted but we had tons of fun. We are definitely planning on going next year!
