We had a wonderful experience horseback riding at Stermitz Ranch!
The drive up to the ranch was in itself scenic and memorable as the road winds its way up the mountain next to a babbling creek.
The ranch is vast and beautiful. Our wrangler Sierra was amazing and gave us a great tour on horseback. She was sweet and truly made it an authentic Montana experience. It was a highlight of our trip.
I highly recommended going here, you'll be glad you did!

My husband and I were at the end of our vacation and I called all over trying to book a ride only to learn this is very late in the season, hunting is beginning.
We were referred to Wilderness Connection were we met our guide Derek. The drive to the ranch is so beautiful!
Derek met us and let us know we would be joined by four others. He saddled up the horses and we waited for the others. Fortunately we were waiting in a very beautiful place, as it ended up, they didn't show up, so we got to have Derek as our own private guide!
He did such a spectacular job not only in taking us on a very beautiful two hour ride, but also in teaching us about all the wildlife in the area. I have a different perspective on some things due to what I learned from Derek.
We thank you so much for the experience you gave us, it will be a life long memory!

We did a 2 hour horse back riding trip at Stermitz ranch June 11, 2019. It was hard to fit 13 individuals from 9-45 yrs of age, all with little to no horse back riding experience. It took a while to match us all with the right horse. The staff was very patient and helpful. The 2 hour ride went by so fast. The views were amazing. It was a beautiful property and beyond what we expected. It was truly riding in the mountains. Going uphill and downhill. We were staying in Island Park Idaho and could have done horse back riding in West Yellowstone area. I'm so glad we chose Gardiner, MT. We visited Grand Mammoth hot springs of yellowstone in the morning then headed to Stermitz ranch at noon. There was plenty of time. Follow their directions and you will arrive at their place. Worth every penny.

Did a 1/2 day rafting trip down the river and it was awesome fun. The staff was great, our guide in the raft was awesome, and we got to learn many facts about the area in addition to legends. Would recommend to all.

The last day of our week long girls trip ended here with a stay at Stermitz Ranch and an afternoon two-hour horseback riding adventure. We had just run a half marathon that morning and were feeling a bit tired however upon being greeted by Stella (the beautuful dog) and seeing our handsome horses and lovely guide, Cecilia, we perked right up! This was one of the most enjoyable horse riding experiences I have had. The scenery was spectacular, absolutely breathtaking every step of the way and we even got to experience a light jaunt up a couple of hills! Flash, Scooter, and Merle were very sturdy, handsome, obedient, gentle creatures. Cecilia was a wonderful guide and we enjoyed our conversations with her as we were riding through the hills of the ranch.
FYI, GPS stops prior to the actual address of the ranch so just follow signs for the horse riding. Also, this is a rural location on a single lane dirt road. I loved the drive as it reminded me of where I grew up in the mountains back East.

This is not your average trail ride. If you want to follow the same trail hundreds follow every day then look for a ride elsewhere. Wilderness Connection has an amazing ranch and offers rides across diverse terrain where you don't see anyone else. The 1/2 day trail ride was all of 2 hours (maybe even 2.5 I lost track). The ride takes you to some beautiful places that are on a private ranch, so you don't have to cross a highway, or walk on a path in town.

Luke and Cassie were informative and fun. They kept a steady eye on the group and were quick to jump in if a horse went out of line. This is a horse ride and not a dude ranch, so you don't get to gallop or go where ever you want, but you won't find that on any 1/2 day or full day ride.

The lunch was a nice addition as well. It is a good ranch lunch (Hamburgers or Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, Beans, Toppings) and I noted they were happy to cater to vegetarians.

It is a bit of a drive into the ride (15 minutes) but this means no cars, no crowds and just amazing Montana openness. Highly recommend if you are looking for a horse ride in the Gardiner or Yellowstone area.

Our family of 5 (with 3 teenage boys) took a two hour ride with Luke on August 20 and had a great experience. We emailed late on Saturday and Rob was able to accommodate us on short notice. The ride was fun and Luke had us get the horses running for a few stretches. We did not see any wildlife but lots of tracks and a few skulls and bones. The Stermitz Ranch property is beautiful and the views are terrific. We recommend contacting the Stermitz Ranch and Wilderness Connection if you are in the Gardiner area.

We enjoyed a very good trail ride with Luke and Zack on a warm morning. The scenery was lovely, and the trail took us deep into the Stermitz Ranch property, keeping to the barely beaten track. The horses were up to the task and the guidance provided prior to and initially on the ride enabled novice city folk to be successful. Our guides were helpful and informative, and we had encounters with badger and rattlesnake to liven up the day. The mail box of the ranch (416) is a half mile short of the horse-riding, so keep going when you see it and follow the small Trail Ride signs. We booked directly with the ranch (3 separate calls), which was mildly problematic as the guides were not expecting the 6 of us. They were good sports and saddled up 6 more horses. The only slight down side was that one of the guides left a half hour before the end of the ride, leaving only the lead guy. This slowed down the trail ride. Allow 3.5 to 4 hours for the 2 hour ride. Good value.
