Keystone has one of the best beginner areas I’ve seen. It even includes a small lift for anyone to learn to get on and off with staff who are helpful and patient. The slopes are family friendly too! Thanks!

I came here with my wife and 7 year old daughter, and they needed to take ski lessons. I chose the group lessons so my daughter could meet some other kids. Daughter had a full day lesson, while wife had a half day.

Overall, this was a bad experience. Wife didn't even learn to turn or stop. The instructor just kept saying "follow me" and "slow down", but didn't teach how. She was not ready to get down the mountain on a green run, until I worked with her for a couple hours.

Daughter didn't learn to use a lift, or turn. She was also only offered 2 small choices for lunch, and when one didn't taste good, she wasn't given anything else. He hot chocolate was spilled, and she wasn't offered another, and they didn't give any water other than at lunch. She was bored all day.

The green run that takes you to the bottom is so crowded, and people going so fast, that its scary for new skiers.

If you need to learn, this is NOT the resort for you. Bad instructors and no easy runs. If you have to go here, get a private lesson. The groups are less expensive, but you'll need several of them to be able to get down the mountain.

It has also become a bit like Disney. There is a charge for everything, and it keeps getting higher. However, the service gets worse.

The ice skating on the big rink was great. The tubing is really fun as well.

We spent a week at Keystone. Our group was a family of 2 children under 10, 2 parents, and a grandparent. This resort is advertised as a family resort but we found it far from being family friendly. The walk from parking is extremely tiring and if you have to carry your skis as well as the kids...is a workout. On our first day, the line to covert paid for tickets into passes was 40 minutes. Our group paid over $4,000 in advance for lift tickets and we have to wait excessively in line for passes and walk what seemed like a mile from parking to the gondola. Worst of all we felt unsafe while sking. Our young children were learning to ski on the main beginner run named Schoolmarm. Snow boarders and a few skiers would fly down this beginner run at more than excessive speed often out of control. My granddaughter was hit 2 times and I was hit once. I have been skiing for over 50 years at resorts all over the US and never been hit. I have never seen so many out of control speedsters on a beginners slope. This was the case everyday we skied. The difference in speed between the beginners and the speedster is an accident looking for a lawsuit. Keystone needs to get this under control.

We visited on a Friday and it was extremely busy and chaotic. We arrived early and did park for free in the Gondola lot. From there is it a good 15 minute walk to the gondola. There are limited lockers available and NO free cubbies. The lift ticket lines were also very long. We managed to find an oversized locker outside near the gondola and restroom area for $20. The trails were groomed, but pretty quickly they became very icy.
We ate lunch at the Outpost restaurant. You need to show proof of vaccination and ideally a reservation, though they did manage to find a spot for us with out a reservation. They still have very limited food options, just like last year during COVID. Not our favorite place to ski, but probably with more snow and less people it would have been better.

Standing in line for over 30 minutes to buy $170 lift ticket. Keystone really doesn't care about the hassles it takes to ski here

I'm 74 and retired, so I'm able to ski midweek. I got a great package price for a 5 day trip to Keystone (air from Sacramento, car, condo). I had to cancel my rental car through Fox (they suck), but the Arapahoe lodge was 309 yards from the gondola. The snow, runs, and lift system was wonderful. I had some problems with the altitude but mitigated it with acetazolamide.

Keystone has to do a better job regulating out of control millennial skiers and snowboarders. All week I observed them skiing at high speeds through congested areas. One out of control skier crashed into me while I was skiing down the hill. I may be old, but I'm a reasonably good skier. The young woman's boyfriend became indignant when I complained about her out of control skiing. This is a difficult problem, but I don't want any more permanent injuries from these clowns

Rudest employees of any ski resort! I’ve been to many ski resorts over the last 25 years. This is the only time we observed employees repeatedly being rude and unprofessional. First, it was the grouch all the way to the right of the lift ticket counter at River Run. We were so polite and easy to work with, but met by his extra loud sighs of inconvenience right into the microphone (1/22 early afternoon). It’s not hard to take season pass photos for a family when the info is at your fingertips. He acted like every normal question was the biggest inconvenience. Just after 5pm the short loud mouthed guy shoveling the Summit Express lift loading area, waited until we sat down, and launched all the snow in his shovel onto our legs (not the ground below us). Then, he yelled and snickered, “I had to do it.” We didn’t say anything at the moment while in disbelief and to not make a scene, but I encourage management to look at the footage and fire him! We didn’t say anything to him before or after his outburst. My son and daughter both had snow in their boots after he launched it up to knee level as we sat there to be his laughingstock. We observed others getting yelled at throughout the day. I have never seen anything like this. We were so excited about our 5 season passes until we experienced so many disgruntled employees on our first day. Hopefully, management cares from the top to the local level to deal with these cancers.

I spent the weekend at keystone last holiday weekend (1/13/22 to 1/17/22) and I ended up walking 0.9 mile each direction to the lifts because of overfull buses. My family didn't end up skiing because they didn't want to walk in ski boots. The bus driver actually suggested that we walk, because you could see the lifts we were so close.. (again 0.9 miles measured on google walking directions)

I called the transportation office and "Sir, it’s a holiday weekend" was the excuse as if the holiday weekend was a surprise for them. They promised they had extra buses on the routes to take the extra people but we never saw any of those extra buses. The buses were late and full. I’ve been here before and it always seemed they have extra buses running on the parking routes that cater to the day trippers and not the people staying within the resort lodging.

This simple issue with getting to the lifts makes any sort of skiing quality null and void!

EARLY SEASON NOTES: For those visiting in December - remember this is early season. Check the website for updates on how much terrain will be open.

Just returned from a successful trip with pre-teen, intermediate skiers. Schoolmarm and Mozart runs were crazy busy, but we were pleased that the lift lines weren’t too long - about 15 min max. We stayed in an AirBnB unit in River Run Village and the short walk to the gondola was doable for my 11-year-old niece, even when her feet hurt after a day on the slopes.

The disappointment of our trip was that the skating rinks in River Run Village and on the lake were not plowed & smoothed (I didn’t see a Zamboni). It was hard to tell if this was because the weather had recently been too warm, or simply related to staffing issues.

I recall that Keystone groomed trails during night skiing in the past, but we didn’t see this this year. Plan for runs that are chewed up and icy if you stay to ski late. But, the bonus is you’ll have the slopes to yourself!

Jan 2022 update. We love Keystone.great for family. Love the village and we always stay there. Know that this year they have not had a good base. Only a quarter of trails open. The shortage of staff shows on the upkeep of restroom facilities etc. Also, things not open (like skating rink), some restaurants. Masks are not enforced so the gondolas are likely germ incubation pods. But we still had a good time.
