This 3 mile loop was fantastic as it passes by ruins, contours around the cliffs - providing outstanding vistas, finally looping back into town. Plan on 60-90 minutes to complete, with a scale of moderately easy.

This is a lovely walk, with great views - we always start from the Cliff House side, although you can go from the Round Tower side as well. It's all fairly flat so not too taxing.

We hoped to do the cliff walk but only got a short way before stairs and a steep path stopped our friend in a wheelchair. But we did get as far as these sites, which were charming. And two of us walked along the path further but the “castle” and coastguard building are nothing to shout about. Nice views of the water and a nice place for a walk on a nice day. We had gotten a map from the nice staff at the Cliff House Hotel, where we enjoyed scones and and tea on their terrace in the sun after our walk.

We stopped by this fantastic ruin just at the beginning of the Ardmore Cliff Walk. I had my sons with me, ages 16, 9 and 9 and all of us were intrigued by what there was to see! The informational placards gave us a lot of context about the pilgrims that used to visit here and the location is just stunning. My boys were really surprisingly interested in this site!

We done this walk in easy stages taking in the beautiful views along the way we were not lucky enough to see any dolphins but they are to be seen around the area. The cliff walk is not suitable for people with walking difficulties allow plenty of time to do the walk and there are seats along the way and the cliff side is fenced off for safety reasons. St Declan picked a nice pleace to live.

St Declans Well and Oratory are at the very beginning of the Ardmore Clifftop walk as you set out from the Cliff Hotel. It is not a big site, its quaint actually, and set on a narrow strip of the cliff top amid lush greenery a d spectacular sea views.
It makes for a fine Introduction to what is a magnificent loop around the headland. I was there early in a sunny morning and had the place largely to myself so in the tranquility I could hear the lap of the waves a few hundred feet below and the buzzing of bees as they worked the flowers around d the well and church.
Just a beautiful place, I stayed for ages just enjoying the views and the peace.

We walked around imagining when it was a bustling place. It might be hard to do, but it is still fun to try.

You can easily walk from the Cliff House hotel to St Declan’s within about ten to fifteen minutes. The entire Cliff Walk is a couple of hours in duration, depending on how often you stop for photos or simply to enjoy the view. The Cliff Walk actually leads you back through a field and the edge of the village near a church ruins and it’s grounds. Very lovely walk. Enjoy!

What is the history of the well? Someone said there is a story of a young boy whose father took him to the well for holy warer to cure him of a disability or illness. Also, is Armore one of the the towns the Kennedy's spent their holidays?

The well itself is in a small, flattened area at the very beginning of the cliffs that tower over the village and spread out in a horseshoe shape away from the main bay. It was thought that this area was somewhere that Declan liked to sit and pray and reflect. There are the remains of a very early church that has a capstone on the remains of the east wall full of the scratches of people marking crosses on their pattern observance. There is also a well with two points of access, capped by a large grouping of stones with two crosses above it. There were originally three crosses – the one on the left representing the unrepentant thief, the central cross representing Christ and the cross on the right representing the repentant thief. Sadly, the cross which was on the left has gone astray; possibly stolen, but some locals suggest it may have broken off and simply rolled off into the sea below.
This area is a very beautiful and peaceful place and as a well site it has a very authentic feel, with its old ruined church and very early cross carvings over the well itself. Its waters are clear and refreshing and there are a few places to sit and contemplate and pray. The well is normally accredited with curative properties for eyesight which seems suitable enough seeing this was the first place in Ireland for the light of the Gospel to appear.
Enjoy the read. A lovely charming spot. I long to return.
