A small group of us hired a driver and a lovely Balinese woman named Febry to take us up to Tunjung, a small village in the north of Bali. Febry is delightful, she speaks great English and can answer all your questions about Bali. She even brought sarongs with her so we could visit a traditional Balinese Temple along the way. We were the only tourists there!
On arrival in Tunjung we were treated to tea and traditional Balinese sweets, which hit the spot after a 2 hour plus drive.
This project is designed to empower the villages young women to create beautiful colourful sewn products which they can sell. The business model is self sustaining allowing the women to create lasting employment in an area that offers absolutely no employment opportunities.
I felt privileged to meet these women, hear and understand their story, and see their beautiful work. I feel even more privileged to own some of it!
I highly recommend you contact them to organise a trip of your own, so that you too can experience Bali, outside the bigger touristy centres where all the people, noise, hustle and bustle can be a little overwhelming at times.
There were three of us on this trip and the cost for a full day was around $50-$60 dollars each, lunch was extra.

If your looking to get out and visit the real Bali, take a day trip to Tunjung to visit the women of this project you will be welcomed with lovely big smiles. Made is from the village of Tunjung he will pick you up and take you up through the mountains past the rice terraces past the volcano and past the temples to the North of Bali where you till find this remote village. The main industry of this village is the growing of cloves which is seasonal and dangerous work for not a lot of money. That is where the project helps to generate another income for the families of this village one that also gives young girls & mothers a future close to home so they can be with their families and be involved in the village life rather than having to leave to work in the tourist areas of Bali. The colourful batik home wares they make are a of exceptional quality. They are also able to work with you to custom make to your requirements. If you are looking at getting something made for your own business maybe ask if the women can make it for you. They are always looking for new opportunities to grow their business.

A group of us went with Febry who's a lovely young Balinese mum. We left from Ubud in central Bali and headed due north to visit this very isolated, rural village - over 2 hours drive, where a small group of women have been taught to sew and make stunning batik fabric home-goods.

Wow, they're great and it's a really heart-warming little enterprise. I felt privileged to visit this authentic Balinese village, felt great to be so welcomed, and all with no need to buy anything. Well done lovely Febry and the Tunjung women !!
