This museum helps you to understand the history and demographics of Fiji. This is a small but interesting museum. You will gain insight into it's indigenous people as well as understand why Fiji had such a large Indian population, to the extent that the 3 languages spoken in Fiji are Fijian, English and Hindi. If you want to bring home a conversation piece, go to the git shop and get a cannibal fork.

A small museum consisting of one room showcasing Oceanic cultural artefacts and an adjacent desi (Indian) exhibit. The native Fijian and Kiribatian objects were top notch rarities, as is the boat the occupies the centerpiece of the main room. Overall, however, it is disappointing that a nation with such a rich history, composed of so many anthropological flavors, could not muster a more comprehensive, up-to-date exhibition. DNA has told us a lot of Austraonesian, Polynesian, Melanesian migrations; there is so much information about the social-political organization of local clans and their customs; the museum avoids the effort through a few anecdotes. Much more could also be done with the garden, which occupies prime real estate in Suva.

For a country with alot of recorded history this museum does a terrible job at showing it. More of a exhibition gallery than a museum, with the random items, games & plastic fashion displays. Attached Souvenir shop was okay. Only worth the visit because it's really rare to see any Fijian artifact anywhere else. $5 current entry fee.

Please be aware that the Museum has been closed for a refurbishment now for well over 3 years. The coffee shop is open, everything else is shut, the locals know but it is not advertised as being no longer open, even its website gives its opening hours. I organised a driver and car specially to show them the museum as well as my old house in Suva. Museum closed and the road to the house closed both ways.

BE WARNED - the museum has been closed for two years and no record explaiing this so be prepared for a dissapointment. plus side, great cafe on site and worthy a visit itself!

A cultural sight to be explored. Our museum is not always crowded but we prided in our ýau ni vanua'exhibited there.

Das Fiji Museum ist einen Besuch absolut wert. Eintritt 10 Fijidoller. Der Shop hat wunderbare handgemachte Sachen. Einen Besuch lohnt sich sehr.

Getting confused with what is available whilst visiting Vita Levu....would like to do a tour to see as much as we can on the day whilst in port, definitely do not want to waste time seeing lagoons and waterfalls. Someone suggested we hire a taxi and haggle over price and maybe miss out on info or perhaps just do the self guided walk around town? We are due there on 29th April.

We invite you visit the Fiji Museum in the capital city, Suva to learn Fiji's rich culture and heritage of Fiji.Fiji is a multicultural society and it has a diverse culture which you will witness as you go through the different galleries.You can spend about an hour to look through different galleries.You will be fascinated with the Natural History gallery which has collections of Endemic Species in Fiji.Their is also a gift shop as well strategically located to help visitors choose a Fijian souvenir of your interest.You will find some replicas/miniature models of some of the artefacts from the gallery also sold in that Fiji Museum giftshop.A cafe outside on the deck to enjoy some of the fantastic cakes and smoothies / cappicino after the tour in the museum galleries. Admission Fee is $10FJD per person and please ask for a guide at the counter if you need one.Tipping is not compulsory.Hope you enjoy your tour at the Fiji Museum located at the Thurston Garden,Suva Fiji.

You most certainly can walk about 10 mn, it’s right across the Grand Pacific but a cab should take you there for less than 10 $

Hello. My daughter would like to find out more about Fijian art (particularly tapa-based) but we are only in Suva for one day (Monday 2 January) as we will be on a cruise. Is the Fiji Museum open on Sundays? Lonely planet says it's only open M-F. Please advise as soon as possible. No website for Fiji Museum.

I'm sorry I don't know the opening days or times but the Holiday Inn Hotel in Fiji Suva is not very far from the museum. If there is a way you can contact them? Im sure they would know. Sorry thats all I can suggest
