My wife and I read the reviews of the 'broker' situation at this market. We happened to be in the area and walked in the market knowing what we were getting into and wanted to test if we could fend the brokers off. We are both clearly foreigners and we knew we would be approached by the 'brokers'. We continued to tell them, waves after waves, that we were not interested in their services and to please move on. We both have strong personalities but were not able to fend them off. Sure, we could have yelled directly at them and possibly created a scene, but it simply wasn't worth it. Our advice is steer clear of this market, there is one entrance and one exit, if you get too deep you may not know how to get out, and with three men around you haggling you and grabbing your arms, it could be very intimidating. Sadly, as we exited, one man was announcing at the entrance not to engage these brokers because they are scammers and demand 3x the price, he was quickly yelled at and silenced by these 'brokers'. It's a shame, this market could be great for the local vendors. The city of Nairobi should step up and stop this 'broker' nonsense, it's not good for the local economy. We were ready, money in pocket, to purchase local goods. Instead we walked away. In our opinion, stay away until (if ever) it gets fixed

Though I was here for a meeting, I manage to do some fun 'touristy' things! First of all, if you get the chance, you should visit Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, even for a drink or lunch! The views are amazing! They have trails there as well so if you're in the hiking or walking gang. A must see is the Karura Forest as well, its simply breath-giving! We got to feed the giraffes - so graceful with the long necks! And I think I'm now a tea person!

Lempwrsones stick to you and don't let you walk around on your own.

Even if you ask them several times to be left alone they continue in an insistent way.

We had to escape without being able to see anything anymore because it was not possible to look at anything without being attacked.

I've traveled the world but never something like this.

I would have bought a lot if they had left me free.. initially it's fine but when we asked them at least ten times that they wanted to be left alone they told us that we don't respect them

Be aware of scam organized by some of the “brokers” men, they will pretend they are guiding you around with the pretext that the deal is made afterwards. First you go around and choose the items from the vendors and then negotiate a price for all the items. They will tell that you can’t negotiate directly with the vendors. Don’t believe them. They are charging for/five times the amount that you could buy directly from the vendor so make sure you pay to each vendor directly. Like any market there’s a marge to negotiate but remember you are promoting locals with your purchase. If you really want to see where those incredible art crafts are made go to Kariocor Market.

Honestly reading the previous reviews I was quite worried about going to the market. We went on a Friday when it was at Village Market.
Our experience was the opposite, of course the shop owners asking you to look at their stall, but they do not pressure or harass you into buying anything. We did not experience the ‘brokers’.
Some items are such a reasonable price we didn’t even haggle, and other items we agreed on half the price.
It was a great experience and we would go back.

I felt completely cheated and manipulated at the market. No chance to browse and negotiate with the stalls themselves but told we had to work with the brokers who had us pick items to negotiate later. Once negotiations started it was ridiculous prices 60 dollars for a basic average tshirt That’s not a negotiation price, that’s a scam. We ended up buying some things mostly just to feel we didn’t waste our time but in the ent I felt terrible It was especially too bad because the rest of our experience in Kenya has been amazing and the people extremely friendly but this was the last thing we did so it soured things

We were immediately accosted by five or six 'brokers' and were not able to browse at our leisure. The brokers were incredibly forceful and continued to harass us even when I was upset and overwhelmed and asked them to stop. They quoted ridiculous prices and tried to compel us to buy items. The bargaining was unpleasant and they told me to stop asking how much items cost. We were definitely ripped off.

Friendly atmosphere and such fun, with interesting and creative items to buy. Most sellers are up for negotiation.

We went shopping since they told us that they sold crafts from the area (they were beautiful, nothing against them), the problem is that when you arrive they "assign you" to some companions, who of course are very difficult to get rid of because they are very insistent, They make you go to the stalls that they say, you choose something and you fill everything in a bag, you ask for a price and nothing has it, they simply tell you to put everything and in the end they give you a good price, they are so insistent that at the end In the end you continue your path…. It even draws attention if they see a store that is not one of the ones they take you to, they get angry. On the way they are usually friendly, talkative and try to get you to put everything in your bags.
After finishing buying, they take you to sit with them and begin to take out your purchases. They never give you the price, but rather you must offer a price for which you realize that you are paying an enormity.

Every time I told the man that I wouldn't take him because of the price he got upset, so I only agreed to pay for a few things and he ended up very upset because I made him waste his time, time that clearly we also lost with so much walking. If they offer you that option, reject it, it is a real scam, be careful only for those who accompany you since the people in their sales stalls are usually friendly, but these vultures do not even let you see prices with them, perhaps when they obtain commission at expense of the people who do their craft work :(

Its an experience to have. But the vendors will nag you to the limit so need some nerves to handle. You can always visit the same market in a mall as well. But prices will be slightly higher.
If you can fight the street vendors then you get good bargains for the local, handmade stuff. Bargain should start with half of what they ask.
Keep in mind that every day of the week the market is on different locations in the city. No cards accepted. Better to carry local currency. They take US dollars as well.
