a nice drive ( 15 miles) along several lakes that make up the June Lake scenic loop drive. Love the motel with a huge boulder tipping toward the road.

As one of the 4 lakes that make up June lake loop, this one is the second largest and the most popular out of the four due to having a "beach" on the south end of the lake. There are two boat rental businesses right next to each other. We payed $60 for half a day (12 PM to 5:30 pm) they have different boats for you to rent. I recommend getting one with a top for shade. We unfortunately got there late and the only 16 footers they had available, had to cover. Sun block will be your best friend and umbrellas as well. You can rent out fishing equipment as well, however the prices vary according to what you want. You are NOT allowed to beach the boat if you rented it. But you can dock it at the dock and come back later till your time runs out. The lake is amazing, the view surreal, and the experience unforgettable. As if straight from a "Lord of the Rings" landscape, you feel some type of magic when you are in the middle of the lake surrounded by these beautiful mountain range. Pictures seriously do no justice. Nature can only be truly captured by the human eye and saved by the brain. It makes you forget about the ugliness of the world today. I highly recommend it. Nice drive around the lake, beautiful views already and a nice thing to do when your partner has had enough hiking and wants to rest a while. Not many places to stop and take pictures but there are a few.

My husband and I decided to take a day off from running a hotel in Independence California to get out and enjoy the Eastern Sierra. Our day outing was November 4th so we pretty much had missed most of the fall color due to high winds and cold snaps in the area previously but this was a blessing in disguise as we were able to take in the awesome beauty of the area in its "nakedness" and with no crowds. Whether you take the loop coming from the north or south on 395 just do it. The road is easy to drive and you will see an astounding area with mountains, lakes, forest, desert, wildlife, birds, vegetation that runs the gambit, quaint towns and isolated homesteads, vistas and valleys where mountains dwarf you...

One can't put in words the beauty of this short detour it has to be experienced.

Just before the lake you can take a 3.5 mile loop around the lake. Not many places to stop and park but definitely worth doing.

Decided to take at detour from our stay in mammoth so we took the June lake loop. Started on the Southern section and saw 2 deers running across road. Stopped and good some pictures of them. The town of June lake looks fun but also well weathered. Many people visiting town. We drove around and saw silver lake. This looks like a place of action because there were people all over. The northern loop gets into dryer type landscape and you can tell that that this is where they placed a dam to hold water. All in all was a nice drive and maybe someday worth a stay.

Me and my friend discovered this by accident and we were just flabbergasted by the color of the water. It was just amazing. We did kayaking here by paying with foreign currency. The guy giving out rental kayak was so accommodating. Must visit location in summer.

We usually pass the turn off for the June Lake Village, drive a couple minutes north on 395, and then take a left where the sign says “June Lake Loop”. One minute on this road and you have to catch your breath and marvel at how this natural beauty was formed by the divine! Right now the mountains surrounding the drive are still snow capped giving it an alpine look. You pass Grant Lake, silver Lake, and then approach June Village where Gull Lake and June Lake surround it. It’s the best 30-40 minutes I give myself as a gift every time I’m up there: food for the soul.

We detoured on the June Lake Scenic Loop Drive in August while driving between Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. The loop is a two-lane, paved road (CA158) through Inyo National Forest that is only about 15 miles long, but passes four mountain lakes with beaches, a ski area, several campgrounds, picnic areas, and trail heads for hiking. This lovely, picturesque Sierra Nevada terrain of pine forest and mountain ridges should be stunning in the fall when the foliage turns color (elevation 7650'). The lakes offer recreation opportunities like swimming, fishing and boating. The route begins and ends on US395, about 5 miles south of Lee Vining. There is no entrance fee to take the scenic drive but campgrounds and day-use areas may charge a fee. The small town of June Lake offers accommodations and restaurants; we enjoyed lunch at the Tiger Bar and Cafe'. When we visited, portions of Yosemite National Park were closed due to wildfires and visitors had been displaced to June Lake as an alternative. Despite the additional vacationers, the area didn't seem overrun with people and it was a refreshing respite from the highway.

This is an easy 45 min to 1 hr drive depending how much you stop for photography. I took this drive mostly to see and photo graph the fall colors in Oct. The drive allows you to see several lakes and camping areas. June and Silver lake are the best for scale and recreation. There are lots of beautiful Aspens on this loop.
