This was the highlight of my road trip around Slovakia. There are 3 cable cars to reach the summit but the final one only carries 45 people an hour and is best to book in advance. I ordered my tickets in advance (several weeks) just to be safe. We arrived on a very grey overcast day. Once at the end of the 2nd cable car ride the station was entirely shrouded in cloud and it was not possible to see more than 20 ft ahead in any direction. We feared the top would be the same and were prepared to be disappointed, but we waited patiently at the station at our designated time slot. The creepiest looking cable car suddenly but slowly appeared out of the gloom and fog like something from the twilight zone! As a bit of an adrenaline junkie I found the ride exhilarating but quite disconcerting, suspended hundreds of feet in the air but not being able to see anything but white nothing outside. It is probably not for those scared of heights! However 5 mins into the ride , we glimpsed blue sky over the clouds and then the mountain peaks emerged from clouds. It was a 'wow' moment for sure. A carpet of white cloud as far as can be seen with pristine blue skies above and the mountain tops peering over the clouds. An amazing view and one of the most spectacular ive ever seen (and I've been in the Andes, Himalayas and Kilimanjaro) The station at the top has a small bar and coffee shop but to be honest I just spent the allotted 50 mins outside admiring the view outside. Thoroughly worth the ticket and chancing the cloudy weather on an overcast October afternoon!

On a sunny day, this place is like a paradise. It is a peak of Slovakian engineering with some Swiss help. There are three stages on the path to the top. Firstly, from the town Tatranska Lomnica to intermediate stage Štart is a chair lift. Secondly, it is a cable car from Štart to Skalnate pleso (1,751 m) where it is amazing lake, embraced by amazing rocky Tatra mountains. At last, there is a special suspension cable car to the top of the peak Lomnicky štit (2,634 m) where there is capacity of maximum of 15 people on same time and as it takes a 8-9 minutes drive to the top, it can go only 3 times up and down in an hour, thus maximum 45 people can go up to the peak hourly and thus tickets to Lomnicky štit must be reserved (booked) earlier in advance on the Vysoke Tatry website through the Gopass system, also with a time of your ride Skalnate pleso-Lomnicky štit. On the top, it is 50 minutes time to have a look and after that it is a return ride.
Anyway, it is totally worth it because all High Tatras can be seen from this peak and path on the top is well secured and easy to hike, even for people who are afraid of heights. So I highly recommend to do this Lomnicky štit experience if you are in Slovakia or High Tatra Mountains overall. On a sunny day, it is surely the experience for lifetime.

We did this on a day where the peak was wrapped in clouds but it worked out. The cable car to get there takes a 20 minute round trip and you have 50 minutes at the peak. You MIGHT get longer, since my wife and I did because they didn’t have another group coming up at our time to go down.
Even on a day where the peak is wrapped in clouds it can still be worth it. There are breaks in the clouds every so often where you get the great views. It tends to be cold so make sure you wear appropriate clothing.

Glad I did it but certainly wouldn’t do it again. I didn’t realise I was afraid of heights until I did this. The first two stages are really enjoyable but the last stage us straight up in a very small cable car filled with 24 people. Once you get to the top the platform is not maintained very well with wooden planks that are loose. The bar area is quite smelly and when you are not doing well with the height it wasn’t good.

You should definitely pre-book the final leg of the cable car up the mountain as it's usually sold out on the day! We booked 1 week before, there are 3 sections to get to the top, the 1st 2 of quite big and run all day, the last and final leg is a smaller car and operates on a 1 load up and 1 load down situation.
There's amazing views from up there, our day was quite cloudy but it did clear from time to time, also a lovely little bar and cafe to get some drinks, worth checking out! "You can also climb the mountain but this is for experienced climbers only..

Вторая по высоте вершина Словакии - 2634 м. Место очень популярное и людное. Билеты на Ломницкий щит лучше покупать заранее, выгоднее через интернет. Цена чуть больше 50,00 евро на все три подъемника. Если билет покупать на месте без предварительной брони, вас скорее всего разочарует, так как желающих много, а непосредственно последняя кабинка поднимает только 20 человек. Парковка на старте тоже платная - в зависимости от проведенных часов наверху.
Стоит отметить, что перепад высот от низа и до пика составляет 1700 метров. Но если повезло с погодой, то виды сверху фантастические. Как пишут в официальных источниках, с одной стороны можно видеть польскую равнину, с с другой пятую часть всей Словакии. Кстати, Метеорологическая станция на Ломницком щите – это самое высоко расположенное учреждение в Словакии.

Noc na Lomnickom stite je naozaj hodna svojho sloganu, ze to treba zazit aspon raz za zivot. Ubytovanie v izbe comfort a vecera v Kaviarni Dedo boli super. Rezervacni agenti boli takisto skveli a promptne reagovali na nase poziadavky a zmeny kvoli covidu. A aj ked nam pocasie nevyslo podla predstav, vsetko to umocnil “pan” casnik Roman. Dakujeme.

Even though we were clouded out from the view, to see the surounding mountain peaks popping up through the cloud cover was gorgeous. The tarns are simply wonderful. It's a very fulfilling experience. Inside is a little cafe where you can grab a bite/drink before decending. Not something you'd do with little children because it's mostly just views. Though down by Štrbské pleso there is a neat playground. The children in my group (9 and 13) enjoyed it. We had an unlucky coincidence where the clouds moved out for a couple seconds just after we had taken the lift down.

Dopiero za piątym życiowym podejściem udało mi się wjechać na szczyt Łomnicy. Nawet osoba z lękiem wysokości sobie tam poradzi. W każdym razie dałem radę wyjść na część tarasów - co prawda było prawie bezwietrznie.
Przynajmniej raz w życiu trzeba tam wyjechać (wyprawa warta swojej wysokiej ceny), wrażenie niesamowite nawet przy niezbyt dobrej pogodzie. Zmienny zakres chmur i chwilowe zamglenia też są atrakcją.
Bardzo dobrze zaopatrzony barek pozwala mocniejszym trunkiem i dobrą kawą uczcić "zdobycie" szczytu.
Kolejka na szczyt ma przepustowość zaledwie 45 osób na godzinę. Trzeba mieć farta (jak ja) by dostać się do niej z marszu bez rezerwacji.

In our stay in Grandhotel Praha, we booked places in cablecar and rope car to Lomnicky peak. Wheather was not very good, very fog, but on the peak eastern part of moutains was visible very good. Day before was excelent wheather but was not there.

Planning a trip in June.
1. If need to book 6 days before arrival, how to ascertain if the weather is good enough? Any weather website with accurate prediction?
2.early morning or afternoon is more like to have good clear weather
3.the booking time is for the last or 3rd cable car. How much time do you need to reach the 3rd cable car from below.
4. How much time do you usually spend for a round trip up and down?

There is not a parking at Skalnate Pleso. You should get the cable car to reach that place.

thanks for your review, is it possible to take a hikers bagpack in the cable car?
We would arrive in the morning by nighttrain and take our bagpacks with us before checking in our hotel.

Hey Josette, can't put a link here because it's being blocked. But it can be purchased via gopass (dot) sk / you select english language, then you seleect vysoké tatry and then Lomnicky Peak. I think you also need to create account. Hope it helps and you have a great time there.

Товарищ, пожалуйста подскажите, что нужно делать и сколько и самое главное где платить, чтобы подняться на канатке и обратно. Буду проездом в татранской ломнице 9-10 июня 16 года.

Не знаю, успеете, прочитать мое сообщение или нет, до своего пребывания в Ломнице, напишу что знаю. При подъемнике имеется информационный центр - сразу туда, там персонал даст объяснения (русский язык почти понимают), укажут на кассу, где купить билеты на подъемники. Важная инфа - чтобы подняться на самую-самую высокую точку, надо кабинку бронировать заранее (вроде как за сутки) и можно через сайт. Вроде как у комплекса подъемников в Лоинице, имеется свой сайт, переведите на русский и вперед. Мы тоже об этом не знали, и поднимались высоко, но не на самую высокую точку. Узнали, что бронировать надо заранее, когда уже приехали билеты покупать. Но даже не на самой высокой точке - виды супер, думаю, вам понравится.

Здраствуйте! Я никак не могу понять сколько стоит подняться на Ломницкий штит ? Если я приехала с Попрада в Татранская Ломница . Я покупаю билет на ломницкий штит , или чтобы туда добраться нужны пересадки ? Подскажите пожалуйста кто там был. Потому что в каждом турагенстве говорят разную цену.

Добрый вечер! Чтобы попасть на Ломницкий штит, пересадок не избежать :) Мы брали билеты от Татранской ломницы до Ломницкий штит - у вас будет 2 пересдаки, одна из них на Скалнате Плесо. Не знаю, какие цены зимой, летом от Татранской Ломницы на 3 взрослых и одного ребенка туда обратно это стоило 160 евро примерно. Билеты удалось купить только за неделю до назначенного времени по интернету. Продавать начинают за неделю. У них есть сайт: ww.vt. sk/ru/ cenniki/ cennik-na-podemniki/. Сначала надо оформить карту, ее можно оформить виртуально.
