Sports complex that hosts the Australian Open as well as other cultural events, we visited it in December without championships in play, you cannot enter the main courts, we were able to see the KIA Arena.
There is also an area with busts of the greatest Australian tennis players of all time, and a statue of Rod Laver.
The only thing that was open was the cafeteria.
The tram leaves you at the entrance of the complex, it covers many hectares of land. Recommended if you are a tennis lover.

Melbourne Park is a large sports complex and is most well known for hosting the Australian Open Grand Slam tennis tournament each year.
It’s incredibly well positioned alongside the banks of the Yarra River, near Federation Square. Melbourne has organised their sporting precinct so well. It’s all within easy walking distance of the Melbourne CBD and is well served by public transport.
We were in Melbourne at the Australian Open in January, and had a brilliant week, staying in the city centre, walking to and from Melbourne Park each day and making the most of Melbourne’s wonderful foodie scene at night.
There are several arenas within the park, the largest being the Rod Laver Arena. However liked the smaller Margaret Court Arena for the tennis, where you are close enough to see the expressions on the players’ faces, the clenching of a fist, or a fist pump after a point was won.
The whole of Melbourne Park comes alive during the tournament, with kids’ play areas, promotional activities and events, champagne and Aperol tents, and open areas with large outdoor screens where you can spread out on the grass. For die-hard tennis fans, Garden Square is worth a quick look. A cavalcade of bronze busts celebrates the best of the best of Australia’s tennis legends (Leighton Hewitt will be added this year).
TIPS:
If you’re here for the tennis, it makes life a lot easier (and cheaper) if you come prepared. Food options are limited and mainly consist of burgers, chips and fast food. We preferred to buy a sandwich or wrap on our way to the park. It was better food, cheaper and best of all, we didn’t have to exit the arena, show tickets, wait in queues and miss out on tennis to buy food.
If you bring your own water bottle, there are water stations all over the place where you can re-fill it for free (just don’t bring a glass one because it will be confiscated at the gates).
It’s also worth noting that you can’t bring alcohol inside (there are bag checks) but you can buy it once inside (limit of 4 drinks per person each time).
Free sun screen pumps are positioned all around the park and they were giving away small tubes near the entrances.

My wife and I visited this place to attend The Australian Open 2022. This sports district has grown to become a spectacular showcase for the venue for this annual tennis international tournament that is watched all over the world.
The centre court is in Rod Laver Arena, where the highest ranked get to play. After that, there is Margaret Court Arena, John Cain Arena, Kia Arena and numerous outdoor courts within the Park.

Visiting the Australian Open (tennis) these grounds are amongst the best in the world.
Seating on Rod Laver Arena is good - padded seats, good views from everywhere. Margaret Court Arena is small and intimate with fabulous views, though the plastic bucket seats are a bit hard! Melbourne Arena offers excellent views, especially considering you can get seats there using the superb value ground passes.
Food provision is adequate and quite tasty, a bit over the top price wise but entirely manageable.
Highly recommend a visit.

Sports lovers heaven! This is the place to be for sporting events and concerts in Melbourne. Always something happening be it tennis, cricket, football, rugby, concerts etc. The facilities are constantly being improved and you truly get a wonderful experience here. Parking is ridiculously expensive but there is tram and train access. It's also a 15-20 min walk to the city, depending on your speed of walking, or how thick the crowd is!! Food at the venues is pricey- as you'd expect. if you take your own water bottles you can fill them up inside...many concerts won't allow you to take drinks in- or they take the lid....I usually have a spare lid in my pocket to use once inside.

This venue is a wonderful sports complex which includes the tennis centre with its 20-something tennis courts, and the Melbourne Cricket Ground right next door to the tennis complex. We had a wonderful time here in January at the Australian Open Tennis Quarterfinals matches. We would love to have stayed longer and seen the semifinals and finals but that wasn't possible for us this time around. We loved the set up here - three arenas with retractable roofs (these courts can be used by the public at other times during the year), lots of memorabilia shops and of course, so many eateries. And all this is only about 1km from the city centre. There's a lovely walk along the Yarra River from the CBD to Melbourne Park and there's plenty to see along the river with all sorts of boats motoring or rowing up and down. We look forward to returning to Melbourne in the near future, it's a city we have come to love.

Visiting for the Australian Open is always a great experience. The facilities are second to none - food, drinks, bathrooms, gardens, seating, cooling spray fans...
Excellent views of the city from many of the outside stadiums.
It's easy to spot a player, especially in the early days of the tournament.
