What an amazing day, it was entirely stress-free from start to finish! Federica was our contact person and did a great job organizing and coordinating everything. She was super quick to respond to all of my emails and obsessive questions in the months and weeks leading up to our trip. We took an early 7:00 am train from Rome to Naples and were met by our driver, Raffaele, who was so awesome! He drove us around in a very comfortable Mercedes Vito black van. He just zipped around whereas we would have spent all day stressing with traffic, directions, and parking. Plus, he’s a foodie - we loved learning about the different types of mozzarella and Italian cuisine! First stop was Pompeii- we were very lucky to have Roberta as our guide. Incredibly professional, knowledgeable, fun, and she was featured on a Rick Steves video of Naples and Capri years ago! Thanks to Roberta for making Pompeii so special for my daughter who took Latin last year at school. Then we climbed Vesuvius, super windy but we were so happy we had the opportunity to walk around the rim of the volcano which is still steaming from vents. We had a nice pizza lunch at a restaurant near the top which Raffaele recommended, and then headed to Herculaneum. No guide this time, but Roberta had prepared us with some general info. The site was smaller than Pompeii, but worth an hour. Very sad and striking to see the remains of those who tried to flee by boat. Then back to the station for 6:30 pm train to Rome. Thank you to Federica, Raffaele, and Roberta!!!!!!! We never could have managed to see it all on our own!
