Delightful short visit
aug. 2021
A brief visit early August. Small museum with displays in good shape. Like the old diving suit and the Harley bike. Upstairs are mostly old household displays. Outdoor displays old CPR train where you can board and browse inside the cabin. Shady
bench outside for a rest in the heat.

Castlegar Museum

Excellent location with years of artifacts and collectables from years of history in the Castlegar area along with some old railroad history also. Deb does a great job of looking after this operation.

Museum had a lot of neat things from the period.

All items in good shape.

The 1929 Harley was my favorite.

Well worth a visit to the train depot and the jail.

It’s free.

Typical Small Town Museum

Tourists will find this Important CPR junction of interest, as it is where the trains headed south for the smelter at Trail and the gold fields in Rossland. I particularly enjoyed the exterior of the building and the caboose. Great for train buffs.

Such a great display of local artifacts from years gone by. Well done and thanks to Deb and all volunteers that help keep this piece of heritage alive for us to enjoy and appreciate.

Neat little place

My boyfriend and I stopped in here one day after class. We heard great things about the museum. This place gives you a small taste of the local CPR history.

Old Memories Rekindled
aug. 2016
When we had our vacation in the West Kootenays, we stopped by the CPR museum and spend about 2 hours there. The lady who greeted us was very friendly and told us many stories about the building and some of the exhibits. Since we had lived in Castlegar for about 2 years in the late 1980's, we quickly discovered common acquaintances. In the future, more local artifacts would enhance this museum. It was worth the time to come by.

Worth a visit
jun. 2017 • Stellen
This is a community museum housed in the old CPR Station. The two floors of rooms contain many mostly household artefacts from the 20th century. It's like a walk back in time for those of middle age and older and very interesting. When we visited there was display of work from the local school, with reflections on artefacts from their own families and their lives.
Next to the old station building there is an old RCMP building with office and cell, and at the back of the building some historic railway machines.
Although the museum is quite haphazard, it is equally enjoyable, and the volunteer was very friendly and helpful in understanding Castlegar life.
The museum is free entry, but there is an opportunity to make a donation to it's valuable work.

Wish We Had More Time To Take It All In
jun. 2017 • Stellen
We stopped in Castlegar to do a self-guided tour of the Sculpturewalk & have some lunch before heading to the Doukhobor Discovery Center & to Ainsworth Hot Springs. Our Sculpturewalk map showed us that the CPR Station Museum's grounds had some sculptures. There, we found several sculptures form past & present competitions. A riot of beautiful blooms graced the area, as well. There were picnic tables which would have made for a good spot for a picnic lunch. We took a peek inside the museum. But, did not have the time to do it justice. We will have to come back on a future trip.

Loved the Harley!

So lots of old stuff in this museum! Not enough time to take it all in! Old Harley Davidson worthy of the picture! Not too many items for sale. Just neat stuff to look at!
