We’ve camped at the campground which is an absolutely stunning and amazing campground, the best so far.

We went to down to the beach. The trail leads throughout beautiful forest and plenty of stairs to the shoreline. The beach is black and sometimes rocky. People need to be careful running into the waters as there can be rocks here and there. It’s a bit tricky when the ocean is quite choppy and wavy not to bump into a rock in the water. The water is really cold but beautiful after such a hot day. Not much shelter in the shade while being at the beach with babies.

But such a lovely spot. Would definitely return to it.

Great: trail is easy and short, area is beautiful with the tall trees on the cliffs, sandy beach (not a ton when the tide is in), sound of waves drowns everyone else out, bathroom on the trail down.

Negatives: parking lot is not big enough, people had to park on the road and do a long walk up/down, the beach isn’t very wide so people will have to walk right by you as they go back and forth.

Totally worth the trip. Definitely recommend visiting the Sheringham Point Lighthouse nearby.

We specifically came to the China Beach area to hike to Mystic Beach. The hike was gorgeous, well laid out, and a great length. It was about 4km return and an intermediate hiking experience. There are steep climbs and about 175 stairs near the end of the hike. The beach is very lovely, with a tiny waterfall and a rope swing. The water is cold, but refreshing! We definitely recommend this hike!

This is a very popular beach along Highway 14, westbound from Sooke to Port Renfrew.

It's very quiet, long stretch of fine sand, great for families and pets. Social distancing is in play.

We had a very misty morning. Bring a towel/mat, sunshade (there's not much shade on the beach), suncreen, book, as you could stay for a while just enjoying the peace and quiet, the sound of the waves, the fresh air, etc.

It can get very busy on the weekends because it's so close to Victoria, so nearby French Beach may be a better option and just as nice. The parking lot can get full early, and people park along the shoulder of the highway, which makes it more narrow for regular traffic.

I think there's a campground nearby and people who are hiking the Juan de Fuca trail camp on the beach sometimes.

A beautiful campground, nice and quiet. Not a party place. Forest is gorgeous and the campsites are quite private. Bring your own firewood if possible as it does get expensive at $8 per bundle. Walk to beach is great but ve ready for lots of stairs - 260 each way! We will go back - loved it!

We hiked the China Beach trail after completing the Mystic Beach trail and it was the right order to hike these trails. China trail is wide and much shorter and easier than Mystic but still offers its own unique experience and beauty. Both beaches are worth hiking to to see. I think the China trail would take less than a half hour round trip for an average hiker. Bring your own water and a couple of bucks as a donation for the parking lot.

From the car park you take a well groomed path down to the beach. The beach is sandy and the views expansive. Even if the car park is full, the beach seems empty. At one end is a hidden waterfall. Loads of interesting rocks, shells, and driftwood to explore. Well worth the visit. Note...the path is steep at the very bottom and may not be suitable for all. There are view points along the way .

Amazing 2 hour hike, bring good shoes bc there are exposed roots throughout. Bring a picnic for the beach. Great waterfall at the end of hike!
