Marlin did a great job with our tour!! This was the highlight of our trip. The waterfall hike was awesome and we got to swim in the waterfall!! The drive to and from the waterfall is 1 hour 45 minutes but the ride was so worth it. On the way back, we got to stop for the famous shark & bake sandwich and swim at the Maracas Beach. Definitely would recommend water shoes for the hike as it’s through water and rocks.

Just attempted to get here, I dont think the road has been maintained since covid. In our rental car we made a valiant attempt but only 20 minutes out the road became impassable for a car with only 6'' of clearance. If you had a SUV, truck or jeep you could defiantly make it, but in a compact car you will defiantly be scarping bottom a lot. I will say that the drive is indeed beautiful.

Just off the road there is a private parking area that is protected and safe. They will provide basic instructions on how to walk to the falls over a trail, through the river and up to the falls. Bring your bathing suit and footwear that can get wet. Bring food to picnic. Good for youngsters and active adults. Not those who do not like walking through water and on narrow paths.

I drove there on my own, parked in the yard for TT30 and hiked the path to the river, just follow the road until you reach the river then turn left and follow the path/river and look for a steep path on the right hand side just where the river splits. The water coming in from the right comes from the waterfall so you can swim up if you don't fancy the path. At various points you will need to walk in the river (or maybe there's a better way that I did not find since I went on my own without a guide). I went in flip flops but it is slippery in several spots. your feet will get wet. Nice vertical drop into the pool below. Well worth a visit.

We wanted to visit at least one waterfall in Trinidad. That may seem like an odd statement, but after looking at things to do with related to nature, it became clear that Trinidad is simply overrun with waterfalls. Many of them are stunning, a few are small and they are literally everywhere. I chose Avocat after a suggestion, managing to fit it in between Maracas Beach and Asa Wright Nature Centre.
The waterfall is at the end of a 1km 20-25 minute hike. There is a car park with some simple toilets and the trailhead starts at the end of a dirt road. The trail crosses the creek a couple of times and was exceptionally muddy. Our guide from Sensational Tours and Transport, “Sweet” Nick, had his own gumboots. We had not realised how wet it would be, so we were wearing sneakers.
The hike is not difficult, besides a muddy natural staircase at the end just before the waterfall. If you are prone to slipping, hiking poles would help. Just take your time. The hike is worth the trouble.
The waterfall itself is tall and has a steady flow of water. The pool is cool and refreshing, and adequately deep. There’s a rope to assist swimmers in and out. There is a decent ledge under the waterfall that is accessible to climb. The pool is surrounded by large rocks, perfect for sunning yourself afterwards. The spray from the falls will affect cameras, so be wary of electronics that shouldn’t be wet.
We saw a couple of blue emperor butterflies floating in the air around the waterfalls. We ended up staying for an hour, swimming and taking photos. W could have spent a lot longer, and potentially could have packed a lunch, but we were wanting to visit Asa Wright Nature Centre for the afternoon tour.

I enjoyed most of the drive to go to the falls but after a while the road was rough and narrow. We parked at a guys yard and paid $30.00 TT, there are toilets and a changing room. It took approximately 30 mins walk it was very scenic.
It’s a small waterfall and a small area for swimming. You can go behind the waterfall, I also climbed to the top of the waterfall and explored further which is a must do for adventurous people. Of course it’s a river walk so water shoes are required.

This was a great experience. The waterfall was beautiful. We were able to have it all alone.
BRING HIKING SHOES, or shoes you do not mind losing or getting dirty. Nick is a PHENOMENAL guide. He really knows the country’s history. The hike was short and beautiful, and peaceful. Book with Sensational Tours!

It was a great tour, absolutely beautiful as well, however, be prepared! Water shoes are a must. You will be in water sometimes hip-high. Didn't know that before we went, but we did have appropriate shoes, so it worked out.
The tour requires some semi-strenuous climbing, so be prepared for that as well. Being in reasonable physical shape will work.
Overall, great experience!

The hike takes about 20-30 minutes to get to the waterfall, depending on your speed. You cannot do this hike without water booties/shoes (slip resistant; cost about $5-$10 online) or a good pair of sneakers (NOT worn out ones seeing their last days that are stripped down on the underside and have minimal friction).
Once you get to the waterfall, the cool water makes for a lovely and refreshing swim. You can also climb to the top, don't be that guy hanging off the ledge to take a selfie nor the one to think about jumping.

My wife and I thought we would find a simple hike to enjoy the quite side of the island. At first we were a little worried about the drive from Port of Spain, but after a couple of hours we arrived excited to begin our journey into the countryside. The hike was simple, but you will be walking across rocks in the water and climbing wet dirt trails, so be prepared for this easy adventure. This is a beautiful hike through the stream and hillsides with the result of a beautiful waterfall. Please try to spend at least a 3 to 4 hours to really enjoy the scenery. Also, note the trail is not marked, so you'll have to use your tracking skills to find your way.

I usually wear normal running shoes with good grips. Some of my friends did the same other wore hiking shoes. Whatever you decide make sure they have good grips and can stand up when/if you walk through the water. We took the longer route which had a lot of wet leaves. From my understanding if you take the shorter one prepare to walk through lots of water.

Hi, what is the rating in terms of difficulty of this hike and how long is the actual hike?
Geschreven op 17 mei 2017
I would rate it about level 3 as well. I did the hike upstream- swimming and hiking over the rocks and on land when necessary. Upstream it took about 1/1.5 hr(s). Downstream about the same time or maybe less. Admittedly, stones in my shoe kept me back a bit. The length of time depends on rainfall I would think

First of all, only use certified Guides in any country. In Trinidad you have the TRINIDAD & TOBAGO TOUR GUIDES' ASSOC.. That # is 18687258674 or 18687619984.
The two Guides for Waterfalls are IVAN CHARLES # 18686856206
EMILE SERETTE # 18687402860.
