My wife and I did the full Road to Hana tour on our Honeymoon at the end of September 2023 and we are so happy with our choice. We had Doug as our driver and he was amazing, and now someone we call a friend!
As this was our honeymoon and first time to Hawaii, we wanted to see the best things on all the islands and so Road to Hana had to be on that list. We came in on the Pride of America Cruise ship for two days, and it was so easy to work with Hoaloha for this tour. They picked us up at the shopping center across from our ship and dropped us off right at the ship terminal entrance. It was a very long day since we did the full road to hana trip, but so worth it. We saw everything it seems; turtles, beaches, lava rock coast, black sand beaches, Red sand beaches, churches, local towns, waterfalls, rain forests, bridges galore, cliffs, lava tubes, fruit stands, Aunty Sandy's banana bread, Uncle Russell's Huli Huli Chicken, fresh coffee, and on top of all of that we got stories and info from Doug who has been on the islands for many years.
Why did we choose Hoaloha? Yes, it is more expensive then getting on a group bus with 10-20 other people, and it is a lot more expensive then renting a car and driving yourself, but what you lose from your wallet... you will gain 10x in the experience. While the Road to Hana may have become a tourist attraction, it is the lifeline for many on this island and so you need to respect the island and it's people. By having a tour guide (group or private), you help respect it. They know where it is ok to stop and not stop. They know the road conditions to keep you safe and not hold up traffic or impact the locals who are commuting for their daily life. As a big researcher and planner, yes I could have driven this myself, but since it was my first time and my honeymoon, I wanted to enjoy it and take my eyes off the road and take it all in with my wife. So have a driver allowed me to do that. We also didn't want to be on anyone else's schedule in a group tour. We wanted to stay at a spot as long as we wanted or as short as we wanted, and having a private tour allowed us to do that. We didn't have to listen to anyone's questions/remarks/stories for 8+ hours in a group, and we didn't want to have to experience the rainforest and the island's beauty through a glass window in an air conditioned van/bus. By having a private smaller jeep, we were able to have the top & windows down for 99% of the trip. We really got to take in the sights, sounds, and smells of it all. Worth the investment in our experience and memories.
Bonus: By having our own private guide, we ended up getting a photographer included! Doug was great as he took every picture of us we wanted. We didn't have to bug someone or settle for just a individual shot of each other or selfies.

Highly recommend Hoaloha Jeep Adventures. Our private tour of Maui included several scenic stops that were unexpected. Our guide, Marcus was a wealth of local knowledge and Hawaiian history. Not only did we see the picturesque coastline, waterfalls, and historic landmarks we also stopped for delicious food (shoutout to Uncle Russell’s Huli Huli chicken cooked over mesquite). The road to Hana can be very dangerous in places and we couldn’t imagine driving ourselves. Plus the driver wouldn’t get to see much. Since this was our private tour, we could stop where we wanted and spend as much, or little, time as we liked. This tour definitely exceeded all our expectations

Our Road to Hana Jeep Tour was perfect! It was a highlight of our trip to Maui. Doug was our guide for the day - he's the absolute best! He taught us so much history and knew all the coolest spots to stop at. We had delicious food along the way too - banana bread at Aunty Sandy's, pizza at Hana Farms, and the famous huli huli chicken.
We are so glad we didn't drive the Road to Hana ourselves - it is a difficult drive and it was so nice to sit back and enjoy the beautiful views. We were even picked up and dropped off right at our hotel! Doug constantly offered to take photos of my husband and me throughout the day, which we are so grateful for! We will truly never forget the day. We wholeheartedly recommend Hoaloha Jeep Adventures! Thank you Hoaloha Jeep Adventures and Doug!!
We are so glad we didn't drive the Road to Hana ourselves - it is a difficult drive and it was so nice to sit back and enjoy the beautiful views. Our Reverse Road to Hana Adventure was the most amazing and magical experience of our trip to Maui. The Hoaloha Jeep Adventure is a completely customizable experience, tailored for us and to our interests. We wanted to learn about the history, culture, flora and fauna of Maui. We also wanted to have a memorable experience and learn about the Hawaiian people and their way of life. Hoaloha Adventures can change their name to Aloha Spirit as seemingly their mission is to share the Aloha Spirit with all.
We went where no one else can go because we were in a jeep, which is way too much Fun! We had so much fun because of our guide BJ.
Blaise John, BJ, what an amazing human we were blessed to meet. Authentic, kind, compassionate, and thoughtful BJ. He loves Maui. He loves his family and friends. By nature, he generously shares his knowledge and experience so that we can immerse into the world of Hawaiian culture.
And did I mention Fun?
"Do you like roller coasters? Would you like to have a roller coaster experience?"
Guess what we said :D
"Would you like to lower the top? This is a beautiful canopy which is perfect to experience with the top down, but it is also nice with the top up. Which would you like to do."
We allowed the tree canopy to shelter us in waves of green.
It was a feast for the senses with sights of the most beautiful vistas we've ever seen, the smells of the flowers and plants, and the sounds of the rocks rolling on the beach like thunder.
As a natural born teacher, BJ imparted his love of Maui with us and was sincerely happy to see our appreciation and love of Maui grow.
BJ took us to a serene waterfall seemingly uninhabited and pristine.
Swimming to the waterfall against the current, he saw that I was struggling to make it, and he held out his hand so that I could make the final push and experience the water falling down.
BJ can now add Hero to his name! As we swam back to the bank, my husband's wedding ring slipped off his finger. My first reaction was to laugh and say, "It's a sign! A sign that we need to come back to Maui." BJ swam over to where my husband was holding onto a rock, dove down into the water and surfaced with the wedding ring in his hand and a huge smile on his face.
I still think it's a sign and we will go back and enjoy another Hoaloha Adventure with our friend BJ.
I ask you,
Do you know what sassafras tastes like? Have you seen it growing in the wild?
Have you ever seen a pink pineapple grow?
Have you ever seen a shy plant which curls back it's fronds with your touch?
Have you heard thunder from the water?
Have you tasted the most delicious chicken in the world?
There are places we went, people we met, history we learned and experiences we had which are part of a road less traveled.
We felt bombarded by beauty. By the end of the day, I was gobsmacked. I could not speak because it was so truly beautiful. My husband and I just held each other, listening to the sounds of the waves and wind in the trees, watching the sun beginning to set, and promising to each other Aloha forever in our hearts.

Great day on the reverse road to Hana with tour guide Jason! From the photos to the beaches and waterfalls to the food and fun facts, it was an amazing aloha experience! Having a driver allowed our full attention on everything Hana has to offer, wouldn’t do it another way. Thx to Jason for the personal touch and lifelong memory!

We had absolutely the best day! I cannot recommend this company enough. From the moment we met our guide—Kainani/Nani, we were impressed with her knowledge, her personal connections to the people/land, and her sweet, caring approach to her work. Because of her, we saw hidden gems along the Road to Hana. She introduced us to local people and to the best tasting food — waffles with fresh fruit, fresh bananas, Huli chicken, a banana bread ice cream sundae and a fresh pineapple smoothie. At several stops, she took snapshots of us that turned out incredibly well, and they are photos we will always treasure. We loved seeing turtles, letting the wind blow through our hair, exploring the black sand beach and swimming at a waterfall. More than anything, we enjoyed coming to understand more about the island and its people from someone who has lived her whole life on Maui. Nani is a true gem, and she made our day something we will never forget. I recommend the Hoaloha Jeep Adventure reverse road to Hana tour, and I can’t give high enough praise for their employee Nani.

First off, the road to Hana is a MUST for Maui. Full of colors, sights, sounds, and places to just enjoy a much needed breath of fresh air! Our personal tour guide just made it better. Huge, and I mean literally the most possible, shout-out to Kainani (who goes by Nani)!! She is what made the tour! Being her first day back after an injury, she gave us it ALL! Telling stories both personal and native, showing us all different types of beautiful plants- some more unassuming than others, bringing us to an amazing local restaurant for lunch, and just going above and beyond to make our experience unforgettable. She even gave me pressure point wristlets to prevent car sickness- tends to be a problem with me! So ginormous shoutout to Nani, the wonderful woman that she is!!! I promise you, if you’re unsure of your drive along the road to Hana, or the hefty price tag included with a private tour, DO IT WITH THEM! They will make it your money’s worth! It’s customizable and flexible, and they will take great care of you! Plus they pick you up from wherever you are on the island! They know that road like the back of their hands, and will ask you questions to figure out what you might like but not have thought about. Also, might I mention, my grandma and I did the tour while the lower half of the island was closed (due to a landslide). Due to that not being accessible, the company paid for our access into Garden of Eden, and Nani did her very best to get us every minute of road to Hana memories as possible! Once again, if you’re unsure, please go with this company! They will NOT do you wrong! 10/10, would do this tour a thousand times again!

Freakin’ amazing day! The road to Hana is insanely beautiful, and being freed up to soak it in instead of focusing on the road was a gift. Our guide Kapeno was awesome, and took us to some great lessor-visited spots. We saw black sand beaches, a red sand beach, lava tubes, all the wildlife and some hidden local spots. He shared a ton of culture and history, and we left the day feeling like we’d made a friend. Must do if you’re in Maui!!!!

Jason was a fantastic guide - super knowledgeable about Hana/Maui/Hawaii and could answer our questions about anything from aloha shirt etiquette to the history of the Hawaiian kingdom and offered many nuggets of information we never even thought to ask. Booking was quick and efficient - he texted us the night before to confirm pickup time/location and arrived early the next day. We booked the reverse tour but the road was closed from rockslides so he explained what the new tour would be and how nothing would be missed, just different order. He knew all of the best stops and when to stop, and gave us time to explore on our own at each location. Hoaloha Tours is something not to be missed! thanks Jason for a fantastic day!

My husband and I had such an amazing experience ! Kainani was our tour guide for the day and her energy was intoxicating ! She was very knowledge about the island and answered the many questions we had. We asked Nani to show us all the local food spots and she did just that! It was such a great experience trying many different local food spots and learning about the Hawaiian culture along the way. My husband mentioned at the start of our trip that he wanted coconut water and Nani took us to a local coconut stand for fresh coconuts. Along the way we even stopped for delicious coconut ice cream, which was amazing ! Thank you coconut glens! Not only was Nani our tour guide but at times she was our personal photographer . If I can give our tour experience with Nani 10 stars I would. Thank you Nani!

Hi! Thank you for your help! I have three questions:
1. Does this tour allow you to stop and swim at waterfalls?
2. Do you get to see a blowhole
3. Does it stop at the black sand beach?
I'm not as interested in the historical sites, but prefer to focus more on waterfalls and beaches. Do they cater it this way if you ask? Thanks!!
Does this trip stop at Red Sand Kaihalulu Beach and Honokalani Black Beach. I didn't see it on the itinery but is it something that can be done. The places that you need to pay a fee for what are the fees? Thanks for your help!

It includes the Honokalani Black Beach. Our driver was more than accommodating to stop anywhere we wanted.
We have a party of 4, would we be in the same vehicle?

3 of us sat in the back and 1 in front. I was the one in the middle & I'm very small so it was fine.
