Roger as amazing like a private tour!
Our guide was Roger! Soo good answered all my incessant questions . Was soooo patient with the Indian family why thought it was a private tour just for them. Made us feel we were having a private tour!

This was the best tour of our Maui trip! Our driver Louie "Brother Lou" was so knowledgeable about Hana and Maui. We were treated to so many great stories about the island. The lunch was good, the snack stops were amazing, and the views were beautiful! The overall experience was so awesome that I would want to would take the tour again the next time I'm in Maui.

Beautiful scenery and history, all enhanced by our phenomenal driver/guide/uncle Louie!! Louie instills the meaning of the Road to Hana for visitors to take home with them. His knowledge and stories of the island provide a fun and informative trip. Everybody on the island knows Uncle Louie. His love for the island, people, culture, and history is sincere. He is dedicated to providing a unique experience for his guests. Highly recommend private tour from Mahalo Tours for Road to Hana and with Uncle Louie if you can get him!!

Best tour in Maui!

We booked a small group road to Hana tour in June and it was the best tour of our eleven day trip to Hawaii. Uncle Louie, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly and gave us lots of history and stories to entertain and inform us . The banana bread , Hawaiian bbq lunch and snacks were fantastic. We enjoyed all of our stops especially the black sand beach and waterfalls . It was our best day in Hawaii ! Thanks again Uncle Louie and thanks to Ronda, Charlie and Russell for the great food! I highly recommend Mahalo tours and Uncle Lou !!

Truly memorable Road to Hana and Beyond tour - glad I did it!

My heart is very heavy right now seeing the mass devastation and suffering from the Maui fire, and I pray for as many people as possible for their safety and recovery. But as I was in Maui the week prior and took the Road to Hana tour with Maholo Tours, I still wanted to write this review for a job well done.

Starting with Charlie, the owner, who took my call for reservation - he was so generous with his time and helpful with his many suggestions on what to see and do, where to eat etc. Louie was our main guide/driver and he was fantastic! So knowledgeable, funny, warm and personable. We also had Lopaca, as our 2nd guide, and he was very helpful, gregarious and informative too as he was born and raised Hawaiian. Our tour group was small - only 9 of us - so we were treated like family and we learned so much about the history of Maui, the culture, the people, past and present. Louie also talked to us about more pressing issues such as the Maui water economics/politics, land deforestation for agriculture/farm use during the colonial times followed by closures of nearly all those sugar and pineapple plantations centuries later - all of which rings with some relevance to what just happened.

We were very fortunate that the road "beyond Hana" which had been closed since May opened up few days prior to our tour. So we were able to drive the full Road to Hana loop that included the backside of Haleakala. Most other tours do not do this. Louie navigated those narrow single lane bridges and roads beautifully (they are the reasons why rental companies won't let you drive the "beyond Hana" road).

I felt the many stops we did to swim at the beaches/waterfalls or walk around shops, churches, Lindenbergh's grave and other historical sites, were just right in the length of time spent (see published itinerary). We had a choice of hot Hawaiian BBQ/meat dishes for lunch made by Uncle Russell - and it was delicious! The best macaroni salad I had and the huli huli chicken was big portioned and moist. We ate sitting at a picnic table overlooking a beach and it was perfect.

In summary, highly recommend this tour!

It was truly an incredible experience to see all these waterfalls, the black & red beach. Thank you so much for this amazing tour, in particular to Louie! Thanks to him we learned so much about the Hawaiian culture & food and the beauty of Maui & its mountains along the coast. We definitely left a part of our hearts on this gorgeous tour. Many thanks again, dear Louie & to the whole team!!

We had an amazing experience with this tour. We saw so many beautiful places and ate so much delicious food. Our driver was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and kind. Highly recommended this experience to anyone visiting Maui

Great full day tour with fabulous views and interesting stops

The Road to Hana is a gorgeous, winding coastal road with 941 curves with breathtaking valleys, lush rain forests, and spectacular waterfalls. With the steady stream of traffic and one-way bridges, I would not have enjoyed it as much if I had been driving. This tour was described as driving from Kahului along the Road to Hana and then circling back across the mid-section of that part of Maui back to Kahului. However, they had a severe winter storm that took out a bridge so we could not circle back, but had to come back on the same road to Hana with the 941 curves – we survived the curves on the road to Hana twice!!!
We stopped the famous Ho`okipa Beach Park and saw honu, Hawaiian sea turtles, basking on the beach below. Our guide brought banana, pineapple, and papaya bread, and fresh pineapple plus water as a snack that we had here. As our 70 year old German driver continued, he told about himself and the history of Maui and how Hawaii became a territory of the USA and then a state. His talk about his past and his personal life seemed too embellished, and so I felt this was a 4.5 star tour. However, he did give us interesting information about places and history for the 9 hours we were with him.
Our driver drove very slowly past several waterfalls where there really wasn’t any place to park. We stopped at the Keanae Point lookout to see the peninsula which was created by an old lava flow, making for a very rugged beach. We also stopped at Pua‘a Kaa Wayside Park where we walked up the paved trail to a lookout over a waterfall.
We stopped for lunch at a red sand beach near Koki Beach with the famous huli huli chicken. On the way back, we stopped at Honokalani Beach - a gorgeous black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park. We also stopped at a lava tube and walked under what looked like tree roots into the tube and exited on the other side also surrounded by tree roots. After a quick ice cream stop, we made one last stop for a quick and pleasant walk through a bamboo forest. It was a full day with fabulous views and interesting stops.

Great small group tour

Long but amazing tour. Jamie is an excellent driver and navigated the roads well. She was very accommodating about our needs, whether we were getting motion sickness and needed bathroom breaks. She was also great at saving crowded stopovers for later on the way back. She was very attentive and accommodating, even taking our garbage for us. We got mini snacks throughout the trip (fruits, banana bread, drink for lunch, waters). She shared the culture, history, and her personal life stories. Overall a memorable trip. My teens greatly enjoyed the trip too.

The best way to survive the Road to Hana
Jaime was our tour guide for the Road to Hana. She was very informative and knowledgeable about everything that we saw and made sure that we visited all of the important landmarks. She kept our trip interesting with lots of stories about Maui. It was a fabulous experience with some breathtaking views of the island. It was nice that it was a small group which made it easier to travel. Highly recommend this tour.
