Best tour leader in Belize

Reyes organised a 9 day tour of Belize for us and was a wonderful tour leader throughout. His enthusiasm and passion is second to none and nothing was too much trouble. His love and knowledge for Tikal and Bird watching is especially infectious and you just want to find out more. I would highly recommend using Reyes as he gives you the personnel touch which makes such lasting memories.

The views were amazing. The tour was tiring, a lot of walking but well worth it. Our guide Reyes was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

An excellent 4 day tour with Reyes

We had an excellent 4 day with Reyes and Maya Adventure Travel. We were recommended his company by several people on the Expat Guatemala Facebook group. Our itinerary was jam packed we were able to see a lot of different things. Reyes was a great tour guide for a number of reasons, he was knowledgeable, friendly and flexible with our group. We had an 8 year old boy who wasn't too interested in the history of the Mayan culture and preferred to clamber up ruins and search every nook and cranny for passageways and bats. Reyes was understanding of this, even if he had to deviate from his standard tour a little.

Day 1 Flores -> Yaxha: Reyes picked us up early and we headed to Yaxha. We did a short boat tour and saw a few crocodiles and then visited a Mayan site on a nearby island and were able to see our first howler monkeys and Mayan ruins. In the afternoon we visited each of the structures in Yaxha and learned about their history with Tikal and neighboring towns. We got a great view of the landscape and sunset from the astronomical complex in the evening.

Day 2 Yaxha -> Belize -> Tikal: It was a busy day, but a great way to break up learning about history with a bit of adventure. Reyes made crossing the Belize border super simple, he's a dual Guatemalan, Belizean so he knows all the ins and outs. My family really liked to stopping at a small local kitchen to try some fry jacks for a late breakfast. We enjoyed the zip lining but particularly enjoyed cave tubing through approximately 1km river in underground caves. It's something we haven't experienced anywhere else. We were able to make it back to Tikal by sunset.

Day 3 Tikal -> Uaxactun -> Tikal

Uaxactun is an interesting site that's about a 45 minute car trip from Tikal. Part of what makes it fascinating is that it's managed by a local community that's living in the center of the ancient site. Many of the buildings remain unexcavated, but the ones that are demonstrate the importance of the site. We liked that there were basically no other tourists there.

In the afternoon and evening we explored Tikal which is obviously the highlight when it comes to the size and quantity of Mayan architecture. We visited each of the temples and enjoyed the sunset from the top of one of them as toucans sat in the trees nearby. Our son really enjoyed clambering up and down everything that he was able to and we enjoyed hearing about the power struggles between Tikal and neighboring cities.

Day 4 - Tikal -> Flores

We did a half day where we headed back to Flores and explored the Arcas Animal refuge which is well worth a visit. They had a few animals that I'd never seen before, like the jaguarundi. After this we visited El Mirador which has a great view back to Flores and of the surrounding area.

Overall, we highly recommend Maya Adventure Travels and Reyes.

Reyes was very knowledgeable! He shared details about the monuments we never would have known without him and personalized the tour to our group’s interests. Reyes was very patient and let our group go at our own pace and time. He took exceptional photos of the monuments and our group. It’s no surprise that Reyes has a perfect 5 stars! We would definitely choose to travel with him again! Made Tikal a very memorable experience.

Wow! Book with Reyes!

Reyes gave us a unique adventure that exceeded all expectations. His knowledge of the history of Guatemala, Maya, and Tikal was immense. He has inspired us to learn more, to feel more passionate about Guatemala and Belize, and gave us a day we could not have even dreamed we would experience. I've never been on a better tour. Please ask Reyes to take you on an adventure! We were able to see howler and spider monkeys, coati, toucan, and other birds while climbing Temples, exploring living quarters, and appreciating culture. He even helped us get the perfect Star Wars shot from Yavin IV. We learned all the drama of the Maya royal families, we laughed, ate a surprisingly delicious meal, and laughed all day!

Fantastic tour and guide!

This excursion was incredible from start to finish. Reyes had all the littlest details covered including any provisions I may have forgotten, extra water, books and maps. It was so educational and interesting! He was also patient with me when I was tired or feeling shaky because of knee injuries. We stayed for the sunset tour which was a long but worthwhile day for sure. This is what a tour SHOULD be and I'll hold all others to this standard! Reyes I can't thank you enough, muchas gracias!!

Knowledgeable, adaptable guide

What a great private tour from Reyes! He escorted our large family from the Belize border for a tour in Tikal. He is everything you want in a tour guide, knowledgeable, adaptable, low pressure and mindful of the group dynamics. He is very knowledgeable of Mayan culture and shared helpful facts with us. He managed all the details so we could just enjoy the beauty and wonder of the Mayan ruins. Took us to a wonderful lunch outside the park. Would highly recommend and book again.

Frankly, the best tour I've ever had

Astoundingly good tour. Reyes was extremely knowledgable, friendly, flexible, and so helpful! He arranged for a comfortable van to take us from the airport to our hotel inside Tikal National Park, met us at the hotel the next day and taught us all about Tikal, including the history, leaders, people, and structures. He also taught us about the plants and animals. He let us take all the pictures we wanted (and took some for us), knew some good angles to take them from, and also made sure we saw everything we wanted to without running out of time. He kindly explained the upcoming plan and any options we could choose from (we opted to skip the hour-long walk to one remote structure in order to spend more time elsewhere, for example). He reminded us about things like sunblock and bug spray, but had a bit on hand in case someone forgot. He took us the next day to Yaxha and we had a great tour there, too. I never felt like we were rushed, nor that we were wasting time (things I have definitely felt on other tours in the past). It was the perfect pace, adapted to what our group wanted. And having grown up in Belize (where English is an official language), his English and Spanish were both great, so there wasn't a language barrier.

By the end, I felt like we had seen and learned everything we had hoped for, and that we had sincerely made a new friend.
