Canceled our tour 2 hours before it was suppose to start. She stated that we were the only ones that were signed up for it but I had checked the day before and it showed that it wasn't available which usually means the tour is full. Also she called us the day before our tour and wanted to know where we were, she had the days confused and thought we were suppose to be there the day before our tour was scheduled. We only had one day to take the tour so by her not knowing what was going one with the reservations she caused us to not see the island of Martha's Vineyard. Also, I had to call to get our money back. I specifically asked her when she canceled our tour about our credit and she stated she would process it, she didn't. I had to call two weeks later to get our money back.

My actions caused you not to see Marthas vineyard? Yea, ok.... I set you up with another tour company.... And how do you know if there's no availability that means it's full??? You couldn't be more wrong! No availability doesn't mean that it's full it means that there's no availability!! Period!!! Maybe you should be running this company since you know so much.... What most don't like about me, Is that I am up front and honest!!! Probably more honest than people care to hear! Anyone at any time can ask me for any proof.... I save and keep everything..... Just for that particular reason.... I have found reason to do so.... I have also found that with negative reviews people always tend to enhance the situation.... Funny how that is.... have a great winter!

Beware if taking the word of this company owner

In October 2023 my ten-year-old son and I went on a special tour of Jaws filming locations on Martha's Vineyard, traveling to get to the island from our home in the Washington, D.C. area. There were two tours that day. The bus used for the tour participants belonged to Homegrown Tours owned by Dolores Borza.

I had two purposes for going then. One was to see how the tour was conducted and also to meet with Dolores Borza who I'd talked to on the phone a few weeks before. I had learned from being on the Jaws at 50 Facebook site that she was looking for tour guides who would be independent contractors to work next summer conducting tours of Jaws locations and of the history of the island.

We spoke on the phone for about an hour in September. I told her I'd been to the island several times over the years, was already familiar with a number of the filming locations, and was first there at two months with my parents when we stayed in a cottage by the Gay Head Lighthouse which appeared in an early scene in Jaws.

She asked about my coming on the October Jaws tour and then finding a time to talk afterwards about next summer. I told her I would be on the tour and said my son would come with me as I hoped he'd be able to accompany me next summer if I was able to do the tour work.

I also sent her a photo of me with the actress who played the first shark victim in Jaws taken at a celebrity convention near Baltimore in September. She sent me the information I'd need to learn about the island's history to be able to lead that tour.

That was the last communication I received from Dolores before coming for the October tour. I emailed her that I'd definitely be there and could we please confirm a time to talk afterwards. She was scheduled to be the driver on both tours and had said before we could find a time to talk between the two tours that day.

I had told her finding housing was a key factor in being able to be a tour guide. She had also said we could look into some possibilities.

My son and I came up the day before and stayed with a family member who lives near Cape Cod and took the 7am ferry that day to the island to arrive in time for the morning tour. When we got on the tour bus, someone else, not Dolores, was the driver. I subsequently learned she had some other meeting to attend and could not be there. But she didn't bother to let me know she would not be there when that was my only time to meet with her while on the island.

That evening when we were back at my relative's I sent her an email telling her how dismayed I was at simply being blown off by her without any word. She wrote back saying how hateful and ugly and short I was, and that she didn't want anything further to do with me in being a tour guide because I'd be all wrong for it.

She also claimed, quite falsely, that I hadn't responded to her and she had been waiting to hear from me. The opposite had happened and I resent her all my past emails to show I'd attempted to contact her without response. She also inexplicably said I should have already arranged housing by this time.

Maybe this opportunity wouldn't have worked out for logistical reasons. But that doesn't change her absence of professionalism and dishonesty through her blatant lying in dealing with me. I read in some of the other reviews of her company here that her word was not always reliable for people who signed up to go on her summer tours. It was better to learn this now about how she operates instead of later. I would caution anyone who relies on her word to proceed very cautiously and have something else for back up. You may well need it.

You are a piece of work..... NO ..... i dont want to hire you for many many reasons..... I have to say I am SO Grateful that you showed your true self before I made the biggest mistake of my life.... the first and foremost reason is that i dont have housing for you.... and if you harass me about it anymore, you will find a letter from my lawyer on your doorstep..... this is MONTHS old.... you need to go away now.... im tired of hearing your cries about a sleeping in my basement - no you cant.... And I never ever ever ever ever said you could bring your kid with you.... keep an eye on him as you let him run around town without watching him.... you couldnt even find him at one point and help up the tour.... NOW GO AWAY and stay away.... you ever contact me again in any way shape or form, I will contact the police... I hope you read this and heed to it because Im not fooling around... LEAVE ME ALONE

Piss poor service took 2 weeks to process a refund. I called every day for a week and had to explain it to Trip Advisor.

Great tour in 3 hours
Our guide and driver Dee Dee was a marvelous and knowledgeable storyteller. She made the drive interesting. The route took us to all the high points of interest. Excellent tour!

Perfect tour with a local guide.

Dede was the perfect guide. She grew up on the island and could share stories of her grandparents lives before the island was so populated. We couldn't ask for a better introduction to Martha’s Vineyard

Dee Dee was great, it felt like a family member giving you the tour. She makes it personal and interesting. She gives you a perspective only a person native to Marthas Vineyard could. If your looking for a tour that is relaxing and informative this is your tour. Dee Dee goes the extra mile.

Wonderful tour of Martha's Vineyard

We had a grat tour of Martha's Vineyard with Dee Dee our tour guide, she was so much fun and had great stories about growing up and living on MV, and we especially enjoyed all the cool tidbits about the filming of the movie Jaws on the Island. The bus was comfortable and clean, best way to see the Island, book the tour, we loved it.
