    Gids Yaxha en Tikal met expertise
    Marlon is een zeer kundige gids met precies de juiste combinatie van kennis van Antropologie, Archeologie en Biologie. Hij spreekt zeer goed Engels en vertelt bevlogen over cultuur en natuur. Gaat de dialoog aan met zijn gasten. Je betaalt misschien wat meer dan bij andere buro’s maar is ‘t echt dubbel en dwars waard. Kleine groepen en alle tijd en aandacht. Hij neemt extra water in zijn auto mee voor een refil, ontbijt bij sunrise in Tikal en verzorgd lunch bij Yaxha en Tikal. Boeken via zijn site en ook met what’sapp is hij goed bereikbaar. Betrouwbare gids. Gun jezelf deze ervaring en boek Yaxha en Tikal bij Marlon van Gemtrips. Marlon is de enige gids die afval verzamelt en meeneemt tijdens de tours. Bewustwording begint bij juiste voorbeeld geven is zijn visie. Veel plezier!!!

    Super sunset tour!
    Super leuke dag gehad met gids Aquilinio! Hij is een wandelend geschiedenisboek en wist ons ontzettend veel te vertellen over de Maya cultuur en historie. Hij wist alle vragen te beantwoorden en vertelde sowieso veel wat erg leuk was. Hij nam ook de tijd als wij wat langer ergens wilden stilstaan bijvoorbeeld. Daarnaast was het ook erg gezellig en is Tikal een must see. Absoluut een aanrader!

    Een prachtige tour gehad dankzij Marlon
    Op verschillende fora werd beschreven dat wanneer je Yaxha wil bezoeken, een tour boeken bij Marlon een echte aanrader is. Dit hebben we dan ook gedaan en hierdoor hebben we waren we een onvergetelijk ervaring rijker. Yaxa is een mooi park waar je in alle rust kunt genieten van de omgeving. Marlon haalde ons op bij ons hotel in El Remate en hiermee reden we in een uurtje naar het park, onderweg vertelde hij vanalles over de geschiedenis van Guatemala. Eenmaal aangekomen in het park zijn we te voet het park gaan ontdekken. We hebben veel geleerd over de geschiedenis van de Maya's, veel wilde dieren gezien en van de zonsondergang kunnen genieten. Doordat Marlon Archeologie heeft gestudeerd kon hij al onze vragen beantwoorden. Het is een aardige man die het goed voor elkaar heeft, hij snapt wat toeristen willen en is erg flexibel. Via de website kun je hem een mail sturen en hij reageerd snel terug, allerlei opties zijn mogelijk en hij communiceerd dit via de mail op een duidelijke manier. Echt een aanrader!

Beautiful wildlife and excellent guide

Watching the jungle come to life with the break of dawn from the top of a Mayan pyramid was definitely an experience we will never forget. It was made extra special and personal by our guide Marlon. Thank you for all the insights about the Mayan culture and helping us imagine how life would be in Tikal in that era.

We were glad we did the sunrise tour because by the time we were done with lunch and heading back, it started getting really hot. The tour was insightful and with a focus on wildlife which we loved more. Marlon helped us spot some distinct birds and also the spider monkey! The coffee, breakfast and lunch was all spot on. Nothing felt rushed and we were able to take in all that Tikal had to offer.

A great experience - will remember forever

This was such a good experience, I enjoyed every moment of it. Marlon is a brilliant guide - extremely knowledgeable of the history of the history of the ruins and the wildlife/plantlife in the jungle. As a solo traveller I found very few tours that allowed you to book as a single person. I’m very glad that I booked with Gem Trips.

Marlon gave us a really detailed history of Tikal without it ever feeling like he was just reciting a script. He answered all of my many questions about the Mayans and the history of the ruins. Marlon also had an amazing eye for wildlife - he was able to spot animals in the trees that I would never have seen alone.

It was also clear that Marlon has a sincere interest in the conservation of the forest. I was impressed by how well preserved the area was, and I noticed him picking up any small bits of plastic (wrappers etc) that people had dropped so that he could dispose of them later.

In short, I’m really glad I booked this trip and anyone who is thinking about it should definitely go ahead. If I could offer future travellers some advice, it would be to make sure you wear decent shoes for walking as the ground can be muddy in places, especially when it is dark. Also, continue to apply mosquito repellent during the tour. Marlon provided this for us, and in hindsight I should have used it more.

Excellent tour of Tikal!

Marlon and Henry are excellent tour guides and the sunrise tour of Tikal is the way to go! We stayed in the park at the Jungle Lodge where the tour begins at 4:30am. It’s exciting and the weather is best being in the park early before sunrise. We saw and heard the jungle wake up- howler monkeys, tucans, coati, etc…! There was not a sunrise which is the case 80% of the time. Henry really knows his history and is easy to talk with. We were done touring and taking all our photos before the crowds arrived!

The food included was perfect- coffee, biscuits and bananas at 4am, delicious homemade warm black bean tortillas, hard boiled eggs and fruit mid morning and a full lunch at a cafe right outside the park when the tour ends at 10-10:30am.

Note- In addition to the tour price you need tickets to enter the park and they are a bit confusing- you need a regular day pass to be in the park BUT you also need a Sunrise pass to enter early. These can be bought online but the site doesn’t translate easily if you don’t speak Spanish. Marlon can help but if you arrive a day early like us it’s good to know.

We did a private tour for two couples and really liked the personal experience. We also moved through the park quickly, got to climb the pyramids and go inside the living areas easily. There were bats and other creatures inside! I highly recommend this tour.

Magical Tikal experience

I would highly recommend the Tikal Sunrise Tour for the most magical experience of Tikal National Park. Marlon was our tour guide, and he was extremely knowledgeable about the archaeological, ecological, and contemporary state of Tikal and the surrounding area. He came prepared - providing us coffee and a traditional Guatemalan biscuit before we began hiking, giving us breakfast at the top of the Temple of the Lost World, and coordinating lunch at the end of the tour from the Jaguar Inn. The tour was well-paced, and we were able to admire the impressive Mayan temples and breathe in the lush jungle. We saw spider monkeys, toucans, parrots, and even a bullet ant! We did not see any howler monkeys, but heard them howling for hours in the early morning, which made for quite the symphony as we watched the sun come up. Again, I could not recommend Marlon and Gem Trips more. Our Tikal experience was the highlight of our Guatemala adventure!!

Amazing tour!

From pick up to drop off, everything was great! Marlon is so knowledgeable and you can tell this is his passion. We learned so much history about Tikal and about the rainforest.
The food he provided was very traditional and perfect for the hike. It was what we needed for the boost of energy to keep trekking the forest!
It’s also worth getting there at sunrise when barely anyone is there. It starts getting crowded by the time you are done with the tour.
10/10 recommend Gem trips!

Amazing sunrise Tikal tour

I had the best tour with Marlon! Our group was small and intimate and Marlon has so much knowledge of not just the sites but animals and plants. He was such a great guide and I cannot thank him enough for the experience I had. He really went the extra mile!

The sunrise tour to Tikal is amazing. While it was too foggy to see the sun, listening to all the animals wake up in the forest and watching spider monkeys, toucans and coatis appear certainly made up for not seeing the sun. Marlon is an amazing guide, taking me around all of Tikal and sharing his knowledge of the Mayan history.

BEST TIKAL SUNRISE TOUR EVER!!!

Hands down best tour I have ever taken. Words can't describe how amazing this trip was and it was all thanks to Marlon. I was able to reach him prior to the trip and he answered all my questions, he even arranged for transportation to Flores after our tour was over. The group wanted to see the sunrise and hear the jungle wake up. It was truly magical, and the colors are not filtered in any way, the sky looks exactly like the photos. You can see the sunrise and the silhouette of the Mayan ruins in the background, birds flying and animals waking up. The tour started right on time and Marlon was very knowledgeable. He could point out the genus and species of plants, provide historical facts and helped us spot birds and other wildlife. This trip couldn't have been more perfect. If you are looking for a tour guide Marlon is your guy! We stayed in the Jungle Lodge, tour started at 430 am and finished at 11 am ish. Gave us enough time to check out and head to Flores to continue our adventure. Thank you Marlon for helping me make amazing memories with my family and friends.

Magical experience on top of the Lost World. Henry was a wonderful guide. He was super knowledgeable, easy going and I felt super comfortable and safe walking around in the dark. We had a plan just in case a jaguar came along. I have no idea how he was able to see all the wildlife in the dark. There’s nothing like seeing hundreds of little eyes watching you back. Being able to listen and watch the forest wake up on top of this mystical place made b.c is an absolute amazing lifetime experience.
